Default Lock Pillar Water Diverter Positioning?

My '69 came to me with the driver's side door and door jamb having been replaced, sans alignment wedges and water diverter strip. The AIM shows that they are riveted to "existing holes" which, of course, do not exist on the new jamb. The passenger side is of no help because its diverter is bonded in place and also looks nothing like the replacement parts from Paragon which do have the "existing holes".

If anyone could post a picture of an original one with a ruler laying next to it, that would be most helpful.

Thanks,
-Doug

Curiously, the AIM drawing illustrates and calls out the diverter as item "16" but it's not in the legend.

I know not a direct answer but poke around in these for clues... Alan will chime in soon with info I bet. He's a walking assembly manual.

Thanks Jim,

I found this on the interweb and, although there's no ruler in the picture, from it you can get a reasonable idea of how they're positioned.

Doug

Very early water diverters were rubber and the later ones fiberglass.

The earliest fiberglass water diverters were bonded in place, the later ones were riveted. They were located in the same spot just different methods of attachment. Your passenger side diverter could be original.

Hi Doug,
John is right about the sequence:
first in 68 no diverter...
then an unpainted black rubber strip...
that continued to about vin 6000 of 69 production when a fiberglass strip diverter was glued in place and was painted body color…
then at about vin 28,000 the strip began to be pop riveted in place.

On my 71, with a pop riveted strip, a little bit of sealer appears to have been used under the strip… perhaps so any water wouldn't enter the rivet holes?
Regards,
Alan

You can see the strip appears to be more or less centered on the lower screw for the interior quarter trim.

Alan,

Mine is VIN 13,367 and I have no reason to doubt that the bonded, passenger side diverter is original. But, since I have no plans to have the car judged and so they match each other, I'm installing the riveted ones on both sides.

Default New Ones Installed

For the sake of symmetry, wound up installing the pop-riveted type on both sides. No offense to orthodox NCRS types.
