Initial timing for new camshaft
What would be a good starting initial timing to start with
this cam?
Lift .504/.525
Duration @ .050 : 233/241
Adv Duration: 276/284
It is lunati's voodoo series cam. Is 16 degrees a good starting point?

I'd say anywhere from 10 to 20 until you get the cam broken in and ready for the fine tuning.

16-18 would be good. That will keep your exhaust gas temperature modest, and it will allow the engine to start and run immediately with no issues.

With an HEI 12 to 14 degrees of initial advance works well because the mechanical advance produces 20 degrees.

I agree with the above. Run 16-18 initial and 36 degrees all in. If you have an HEI where you can't limit the mechanical advance, you'll have to run less initial (around 12 degrees) and then possibly make up for it with vacuum advance.
