Default Replacing stock manifold question

Looking at various websites (Jegs, Zip, etc.) and reading in here, it seems like there's no such thing as a drop in exhaust system?

74 L48 4spd, stock true dual exhaust (2" pipes). Looking to replace the stock manifold with long headers and 2 1/2" pipes and new mufflers as needed. Is there a true drop in system? It seems like almost everything needs some kind of bending, welding or fabrication (generally stuff beyond my ability in my home garage.)

Thanks,

Installing long tube headers will require custom made pipes to attach to the header collectors. When I did mine, I bought a cheap pair of header mufflers, bolted them onto the headers and drove to the exhaust shop that way. Since then, other people have borrowed them to do the same thing. You might be a little too far away.

YEP...when installing any type of exhaust other than the factory stuff...it will require modification.

If you get yourself a set of headers, and a complete replacement system (I got mine from Corvette Central) you can bolt everything up except for the connection from the headers to the exhaust system. Take it to a muffler shop and they can fabricate the final connection. I would do that myself now, but back in the day, I didn't worry much about the drive to the muffler shop with open headers. Its not that bad if you're easy on the gas.

It looks like even they need a little modification behind the wheel.
