Once again what I removed from the car does not square with the AIM. I removed the parking brake pulley from the frame and it had two flat washers, the spacer, and the nut. The AIM shows the bolt going through the bracket with no washer, the spacer, and pulley in between the bracket, and one split lock washer and nut on the other side. Is this correct or could it have come from the factory with the two flat washers on each end of the bolt?
You got me wondering so I went out to the garage and looked at my 68. The AIM is correct. There is the bolt, spacer, lock washer and nut. No flat washers.
Another thing I did wrong.. Those things just keep piling up. I went to tractor supply and got a hitch pin that was the correct length with a couple of flat washers and a hairpin that fit the hole. Sure makes it easy to pull the cross member.
Hi Tim,
I don't think it's a matter of 'right' or 'wrong'.
The question that's often asked is… what was TYPICAL of "factory production"?
Regards,
Alan
LOL-- I've done so many years of turning wrenches that anymore I look for what I can do to make anything easier and faster. And Ol' Red is so far away from anything the factory ever did it's insane.
IF a person has a bolt that it too long....then the washer(s) can be used to keep the end of the bolt from hitting the body...which I have seen when 'BOZO' got in there and did this own thing.
Which falls kinda in line with the new trailing arm pivot bolts that have the hole for the cotter pin drilled in the wrong location. I often times have to do all my adding of additional washers on the inside so you do not see them by the castle nut.
