I'm afraid I find myself in the same predicament as you. She will allow herself to be seen in it occasionally- under protest. It's too low, too loud, and too much like the Camaros and Firebirds the Italians in her Montreal high school used to drive.
My wife could care less about the car. A car to her gets her from point A to point B. She rarely puts gas in her own car. She knows it pleases me so she puts up with it. She refers to it as That Dumb Car. What does she know
My girlfriend likes the way my 80' Duntov sounds and handles but doesn't like the way it looks.. She does like the looks and handling of my 68' but she doesn't like the noise...
You got your wife to ride in it with you? How did you do that? Excuses I have heard: Too stinky, Too loud, Too bumpy, No A/C, Too hot, Makes her dizzy, and she can't see out. She has ridden one time in each of mine, that was all it took.
My wife is on the fence. But i think many people like the looks of sportcars but are not willing to put up with some of thier characteristics on a daily bases. I think when you factor in the aspect that most of our cars are approaching 20 years or even 30 in some cases it is understandable that their just not some peoples cup of tea. My 77 is loud, hot, rude, fast and most of all without air conditioning on this hot tropical island! Thats simply too much for a lot of people, especially in this day of oversized SUVs which offer much in the way of creture comforts while driving( your darn kids can play video games in the back seat). I consider Vettes a "cult following vehicle" as some people get it and some just dont.
I have 2 vettes, the wife has her own, a black 94 vert. She has had a corvette for most of our 25 year marriage. But I had a vette before her, and I will always have at least one until they plant me. No brag, just fact. :D
Re: Does your wife hate your Vette? (sharkthehunter77)
My wife says she loves it, but always complains that it (and I) smell like exhaust after driving it. She also doesn't like having to try and jump over the side pipes getting in and out. Oh yeah... and it's hot. Anyone else have a black/black car with side pipes and no a/c? She says she loved it, but I don't know if I believe her.
We went to my parents' house a few weeks ago and took dad's MY 2000 C5 for a three day, 1000 mile trip around New England. Now she wants one of those... ok!
She doesn't hate it unless I spend more time with it then her. She likes the Vette but doesn't have the same passion for it that I do. Not many people do, except those on this forum.
My wife isn't a car person but she likes the Corvette. She has learned to spot most generations of Vettes and points out nice ones when she sees them. She likes driving it too. I think I may have to get her one of her own. Now wouldn't that be a bummer :D ?
