Default Another paint question

I have decided to touch-up the interior of my 73 and have some paint questions... I read the different post on here and nothing seems to be working for me. I started with the ashtray cover, sanded, cleaned, primed with rust-oleum primer waited a day and painted with semi-gloss rust-oleum, waited 12 hours and baked for 2 hours at 200. It is very easy to scratch. What can I do to make to end product harder.

The toughest paint I've found is POR15. You may not get the gloss you want although I believe it can be top coated with clear in various sheens. Also they have a flat black in the high temp section.

Is your primer self-etching? That metal is very shiny and has nothing for the paint to 'bite' to without it.I very recently did this and used Duplicolor self etching primer and their satin black paint. Worked well.

Uhm, not particularly but it really is quite easy to do yourself. I detailed how I did it in my build thread.

I agree with using the self-etching primer on bare metal parts prior to finish paint. Most interior painted parts have a "satin" finish (not quite as glossy as semi-gloss). GM called it semi-flat paint. You can use regular paint for metal interior parts; but plastic parts should be recolored with vinyl dye or paint with an elastomer added so that it can flex with movement and temperature.

Lastly, ALL spray paint will take 3-7 days to fully cure...unless a special hardening agent has been added to the paint.
