Default 82 Tech question

Hello. I have an 82 Vette. I am in the process of gathering parts to replace the Crossfire injection with the Edelbrock performer package. But I ran into a suggestion I wanted to ask the masses. I have the carb (Edelbock 1405), the camshaft (Edelbrock 2102), the intake manifold (Edelbrock 2701). Now the question. I was looking for a set of good used Edelbrock heads (5073) performer, idle -5500 rpm. A good friend of mine who works in a Chevy garage suggested a set of L98 heads off of an 88 Corvette. Price wise, after port and polish work, I think I will save approximately $300 (already got an estimate from a local engine machine shop). Has anyone put these heads on their c3 Vette? Anyone have any advice on this set up? I dont want to go to the RPM series, I like the power band where it is at. But just looking for any input from experience or 2nd hand experience. Thanks folks. Dave

doesnt sound like the L98 head even ported is a worthwhile purchase

vortec heads need a vortec intake.i would check and match your heads to what cam you want .have you done a compression test?how many miles on the motor?new heads on a old motor can cause problems. is there a problem with the crossfire ?

I am not using vortec heads specifically for that reason. 62000 miles on the motor. At this point there is no problems on the crossfire, but I have owned 2 camaros with it on them, and driveability issues as time wore on. Plus from a performance stand point, there is very little out there in the way of performance. For cost effectiveness and pure aesthetics, I prefer the carb combination by far. The amount of aftermarket possibilities with the carb vs crossfire is not even a comparison. My main question for this post was the L98 heads. Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about them on my set up? Thanks folks

Before you remove everything that currently works, you should use the SEARCH function in this Forum to find prior threads on exactly what you are doing. You CAN upgrade your engine without totally ditching the C/F system. There are many advantage to keeping the original engine management system.

whatever physical engine you choose,
ditching the crossfire will mean ditching the distributor
so get a plan for that.
as far as 98 heads, i have seen some say they are good and others say no,
sorry i don't have an opinion on them

Your 1982 stock L83 engine is already 9-1 with the stock 76cc heads. Going to L98 heads that were 58cc stock (before any shop work) will take your SCR to ~10.8-1.
Your 2101 cam and 2701 intake aren't matched to that..................
