1974, t/t steering column. Last time I drove it, turned the key and it started normally. When I turned the key off, the car continued to run. The key did not turn the car off. Now, if I try to start the car by turning the key, I get nothing. I suspect the ignition key cylinder is bad. Any ideas? Thanks, Bob

You MUST verify IF the rod that is moving teh internal portion of the electrical ignition switch that is mounted on top of your steering columns is actually moving BEFORE I would tear into the column and find out I was wrong.
Your 'ignition key' switch may be fine...BUT the electrical ignition switch that I have mentioned can possibly be defective.
And when I am down there dealing with the electrical ignition switch..I also would verify that I am getting 12 volts ( or your battery voltage) to the electrical ignition switch.
the lock just locks the column & prevents the car from being started. There is no electrical behind the cylinder, right DUB?? It is hooked up the a rod that moves, to start the car, lower in the column.
