Default Looking forPerformance Tweaks for C3

I recently acquired a like new 82 with 3,000 actual miles. Looking for recommendations for boosting performance for this crossfire injected car. Does anyone have experience with the Renegade manifold?

Toooldtoretire - can you help?

Look for posts by Buccaneer. He's done a lot of work with the crossfire.

x2...nice piece that performs. Take your CF off set it to the side.
Some port the stocker but its a ton of work for not much gain, not much metal to work with .

So I am rarely the guy who says "keep it original", but in this case you might consider it. There are probably some collectors out there who would pay decent money for a last year C3 with 3,000 miles.

Yes, I definetly agree. My dad is a collector and has 5 of them. All with about 3k miles. He’s stores them their whole life and he’s now deciding it’s time for the family to enjoy them simce they haven’t really made him millions.

I did put a Retro Stereo in it but kept the original. Will try and do the same for anything I change, but would I just feel like this care could run a little better, like it’s stangled by emissions stuff from the 80s. Full disclosure, I also drive a c7....

I am always amazed to hear stories how someone drives to the dealer, buys a brand new corvette, put a few thousand miles on it and then park it for the next 30-40 years never touching it. Your Dad did this with 5 of them. Wow!

Well sort of. He was not the original owner of any of them. Rather he looked for opportunity when there was some turbulence in the market and bought them when people have lost their *** and needed to sell them. Then he stored them with the thought that the last year of that body style might someday see the value of the 1967 Corvette out of time. Today we are realizing that we may not live to see that day. So I intend to strike a happy medium and keeping the car very low miles and in pristine condition also enjoy driving it at times. Any changes that I make would be changes where I would keep the original parts so that the car could be 100% original if desired.

While I'm not a big fan of buying cars as an investment to store away and keep miles off of, it is kinda cool that you have these time capsules. If you are looking to sell them, definitely use the bring a trailer website! That is EXACTLY the type of vehicle that sells well there. Most of what sells well on that website is oddball cars, exotic cars, and crazy low mileage examples. If those cars are truly mint condition low mile cars that run well, I wouldn't be surprised if you could find someone who would pay $20k for one. If you do end up selling, I wouldn't sell them all at once. The real appeal is that you have a 3k mile C3, if you have 3 up for sale, suddenly it's not so amazing. Just my $.02!

That sounds like good advice to me, thanks. He says he wants to sell one per year. He does have one 82 that we actually drove a little. A silver blue one with 75k miles he is currently selling. I will mention the site to him, especially for the low mile cars.

Just purchased my first C3 1982 this past spring and was in the same place you are. If you decide to go the modification route I started with headers and dual exhaust with the help of one of the forum members called Buccaneer. Here is the link to our discussion https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...d-exhaust.html I can tell you that the increase in power has been significant. I am now looking into the renegade manifold, a new performance CAM and performance aluminum heads. Not sure which one i will do first or just wait and do all three at the same time. You will have some members on here that will tell you to remove cross fire and change to carbs, however i'm not in that camp. I think the cross fire injectors are one of the things that make this year unique and I am going to try to work with them. Just pay attention to Buccaneer's post or ask him questions. He has gotten great power with leaving the xfire injectors on.

Good Luck!

Yea, Im with you. Doing all the things you’ve discussed would be the most I’d do. Im just trying to decide what’s the best first step. Was thinking the Renegade deal. My biggest complaint is what seems like lag compared to modern Corvettes. I don’t expect it to drive like it has 400+hp, but I’d like more response. I am certain the headers and exhaust will do that, but wondered how much improvement could come from just the Renegade.

I really wanna chat with Bucaneer, but haven’t heard from him yet.

Thanks for the info! Please keep me posted on your build.

yes, you and I are on same page.
