Default Left Turn Signal Doesn't come on

I was driving my 78 a couple of days ago and my left Turn Signal Stopped working.

I replaced the bulb but that didn't help.

It doesn't come on when the hazards are on or when Or for the Turns signal.

It does come on for the running lights.

Does that means it is something other than the Brown power wire?

The bulb is an 1157 or 1157x which has two filaments, one for parking and one directional.
Did the old bulb look like one the of the filaments was burnt out?
If you are not careful the bulb can be put in the wrong way. Look at the position of the two ***** on the side of the bulb and look in the socket for the **** guides to make sure you insert it correctly.
Check the ground wire or wires coming from the socket to make sure they have a clean connection.

The bulb is the 1157A for amber. Just like the taillights that are clear.

The bulb I took out didn't have any filaments loose.

Since the bulb lights when the parking lamps are on that means that the voltage is getting there.

It could be the blue wire that controls the turn signal mode.

With the key ON and the directional set for a left turn probe the blue wire just in front of the socket for 12 volts.
If you have power there then the bulb socket is bad and must be replaced.

I checked the socket today. I removed the bulb and connected the Volt meter to the ground and the blue wire in the socket.

I was surprised that I only got 10.2 volts.

Does that indicate something else is wrong?

Stick a pin in the BLUE wire before it goes into the socket you should have battery voltage there.
Don't test from inside the bulb socket.

I put a pin through the blue wire.

I turned the left turn signal on with the ignition "on".

The left turn signal light comes on but doesn't blink.

I get a voltage reading of 9.3 volts.

Pretty wierd.

The ground wire to your bulb socket is corroded or damaged, either at the socket or at the connection to the frame.

Thanks.

Would that be the black wire?

Does the indicator light on your dash work when you turn on the signal? Just curious.

The left dash indicator comes on as a solid light. The right side blinks ok.

Parking lights are not as bright as the turn signal so make sure the bulb is inserted correctly.
The directionals are brighter. (also the hazard filament)
Replace the rear bulb and insert a new front bulb.
Test and post back.

Earlier I had put a new bulb in the taillight which didn't work. I put the old one back in and now the left taillight works.

Yesterday I had pulled the Turn Signal harness from the connecter and cleaned the connector ends. That did not help.

Today I re-tested the left turn signal. There is NO voltage in the Blue wire.

Also I misstated above. The left turn signal light does not come on when the parking lights are on.

It does not come on when the engine is ON and the left turn signal lever is engaged.

I was grounding to the grille support when I did these readings.

Sorry for the confusion on my 1st post after the test.

Let's go back to the harmonica connection.
With the two parts separated and the key ON and the left turn lever engaged see if you have 12 volts at 'H' (black w light blue stripe) on the half that goes UP into the column.
If you have 12 volts there jumper 12 volts to the bottom half and see if the turn signal bulb lights up.

Never mind!
That won't work with the harmonica connection disconnected unless you supply 12 volts to 'L'.
Can you probe 'H' from the top with it connected?
If good at the top half probe the bottom half and hope for 12 volts there.

Let me see what I can do to get to the connector.

You mentioned the tail light earlier. The left Tail Light comes on for the running lights but doesn't go to "bright" for the stop light. Is this related? Right Tail Light works for the stop light when brakes are applied.
