The bulb is an 1157 or 1157x which has two filaments, one for parking and one directional.
Did the old bulb look like one the of the filaments was burnt out?
If you are not careful the bulb can be put in the wrong way. Look at the position of the two ***** on the side of the bulb and look in the socket for the **** guides to make sure you insert it correctly.
Check the ground wire or wires coming from the socket to make sure they have a clean connection.

The bulb is the 1157A for amber. Just like the taillights that are clear.
The bulb I took out didn't have any filaments loose.
Since the bulb lights when the parking lamps are on that means that the voltage is getting there.
It could be the blue wire that controls the turn signal mode.

With the key ON and the directional set for a left turn probe the blue wire just in front of the socket for 12 volts.
If you have power there then the bulb socket is bad and must be replaced.

Parking lights are not as bright as the turn signal so make sure the bulb is inserted correctly.
The directionals are brighter. (also the hazard filament)
Replace the rear bulb and insert a new front bulb.
Test and post back.

Earlier I had put a new bulb in the taillight which didn't work. I put the old one back in and now the left taillight works.
Yesterday I had pulled the Turn Signal harness from the connecter and cleaned the connector ends. That did not help.
Today I re-tested the left turn signal. There is NO voltage in the Blue wire.
Also I misstated above. The left turn signal light does not come on when the parking lights are on.
It does not come on when the engine is ON and the left turn signal lever is engaged.
I was grounding to the grille support when I did these readings.
Sorry for the confusion on my 1st post after the test.

Let's go back to the harmonica connection.
With the two parts separated and the key ON and the left turn lever engaged see if you have 12 volts at 'H' (black w light blue stripe) on the half that goes UP into the column.
If you have 12 volts there jumper 12 volts to the bottom half and see if the turn signal bulb lights up.

Never mind!
That won't work with the harmonica connection disconnected unless you supply 12 volts to 'L'.
Can you probe 'H' from the top with it connected?
If good at the top half probe the bottom half and hope for 12 volts there.

You mentioned the tail light earlier. The left Tail Light comes on for the running lights but doesn't go to "bright" for the stop light. Is this related? Right Tail Light works for the stop light when brakes are applied.
