Hi all, I have a problem where the interior lights in my 76 do not come on when I turn the headlight switch for them to do so. However, they do come on when I open a door. How can I tell if the problem is with the headlight switch or something else? Thanks.
If your gauge lights come on...BUT the footwell lights do not come on when you turn the **** all the way to make them come on and you can feel a detent in that.. Then chances are is there is build up of dirt. dust or whatever that is not allowing teh copper tang to make contact with the portion of the headlight switch to make your footwell lights come on.
YES...the switch can be bad also...but I have run into more cases that with the car being so old...there is a build up of stuff that is not allowing the electrical circuit to make contact correctly
The red arrow is pointing to the copper tang I mentioned and when you turn the **** all the way to the left ( if I am not mistaken) the burnt orange portion of the headlight switch that has teh blue arrow pointing to it will make contact and force the copper tang DOWN...and thus makes contact with the steel portion of the switch that has the yellow arrow pointing to it. THAT is where you can get dust build up.
