FWIW-My L-82 355 with AFR heads, roller cam (.525/.525 lift, duration 219/225, LSA 110) with 10.2 compression with a close ratio Stock GM super T10 4 speed 3.70 rear gears will pull effortless from 900 RPM in 4th gear-zero bucking, lugging. I can pull away from a dead stop with no gas off idle as well in first. If I ever get a 5 speed I would unquestionably go for the .64OD with my 3.70 gears and motor. My engine could cruise all day long @ 1,700-1,800 RPM...no problem
I always wonder when folks say that their motors do not tolerate sub 2,000 RPM's cruising, especially any BB or BB's that need to slip the clutch from a standing start..too much cam for the street????
Who makes a good transmission that can handle the power without breaking the bank? Is there anything different about the gearing when using a BB?
For street use Tremec is where it's at for both 5 and 6 speeds. The TKO 5-speed holds up behind big blocks, at least on street tires. Don't know how it would like slicks and 5,000 rpm launches at the strip, but then many other C3 parts will break doing that as well.
