Ill
put indicator on wheel straight above valve stem.

I made a stud that attaches to the valve cover rail bolt hole.......depending on the situation, I can take the reading from the tip of a pushrod, or side of the retainer if it is big enough.
Of course, this is done I and E with light tension springs and I have a solid flat tappet and solid roller lifter as spares to use to check with. I use the .050/.050 method......then check the opening and closing against the card...and Bob's you're uncle.

I can do that as long as the rocker isn’t on. When the rocker is on IT goes over the stem. If the rocker isn’t over the stem and pushing on the valve there’s not much to measure.

You can measure max lift off of the retainer as well and sometimes its easier, just keep the indicator plunger parallel to the stem. If you really want to ensure the cam is ground correctly you do it on a surface plate and v-blocks (I had a Cam from Straub that was ground with the lobes 0.010 taller than the Cam Bearing Journals) I still steam when I think about the time and money that cost (didn't find it until the Cam wouldn't install past Journal 2).

Whether it's worth the time or not depends on the ability to get good readings. It's always worth the time...and once you've done it a few times and have the tools that work...it only takes a few minutes and you know what's actually happening. You have a few goofy numbers there...I wouldn't be able to sleep until I knew for sure.

I assume the cam card says it's a 110 LSA?
