You could simply add an “H” pipe to try and address the drone. I am running 40’s and they only have drone from 1500-1700rpm under load (which is fine). I have 2-1/2” full exhaust, long tubes and a 1-1/2” cross pipe behind the trans support. Sounds nice and very tolerable at freeway speeds - but not quiet by any means.
H pipes are A:WAYS a good idea. The simple fact that they turn your exhaust system into an 8 cylinder system rather than what you've got without it, two 4 cylinder systems. The sound is just better, smother and less crappy sounding, Probably worth a couple of extra HP and a bit of extra torque too.
, you'll never get your Corvette to sound like a mustang,,lol,, physics and genetics, just won't let it happen, ,, you have a better chance at a successful sex change operation, then that ever happening,
What he said. Biggest reason... firing order.
I too like the sound of a ripping Mustang. But I still favor a big block with a cam.

I finally can officially confirm I have flowmaster 40's, found the part number.
Does the H pipe also quieten it down a bit at idle etc? Or just the drone? Although the drone might be what I'm hearing at idle too ...
I've been thinking about adding some cherry bombs as second muffler. I've seen the pro series by flowmaster too, wich look interesting and are supposed to be a tad less loud.
You can add "J pipes" to the mufflers you have now and that would stop the drone and improve the sound. Here is a example. Basic pipe with one end blocked off and the J part connected in front of the muffler.

The H-pipe got rid of most of the drone - I only had some drone from about 1600-1800rpm under load. I would not say it quieted the system. In my case I went for 40's specifically because the cam had a nice chop, I only drove it on weekends, and the sound at both idle and WOT was glorious. It would definitely be a little tiring on longer drives, though.

I've seen this type of setup before - there are Tundra guys doing this - sorry but it's ridiculous. Run a Corsa muffler at the end of the system - same type of concept. Mufflers like Ultra Flows, Magnaflows, & others that are straight through are not restrictive, but they do not do ANY tuning either. Like running straight pipes & the mufflers are simple expansion chambers. Personally, for an oval or box-type muffler, I like the concept & performance of the Cherry Bomb Vortex, as well as the sound quality.

i will be stock with cat as oem mufflers rattling loose

I have the Super Turbos on my 72' 406.......they sound very chunky, always liked the turbo style muffler sound....but, they have the dreaded 2" outlet that 99% of C3 specific mufflers have........so with the engine I have now, I am leaving power on the table. I bought a pair of Pypes Street Flows and an Pypes X-Pipe from two well known and great members here and one day when I have time I am going to have these installed. Remember...the more power you are trying to potentially make, the more important the exhaust system is......especially when you start getting into camshafts with a lot of duration.

You may think it is ridiculous but it's not, it works. Check out the Gen5 Camaro forums, they are doing this with great success. Your choice of a Cherry bomb vortex and Corsa add on is terrible. Those are some of the worst sounding POS on the market.

I like my Magna flow XLs, 2.5" dual mandrel bent with X pipe. Loudish at idle, and definitely when you get on it, but no drone at all, I can't really hear the exhaust over wind and tyre noise on the highway.
That "J" pipe thing is a "Helmholtz Resonator". Never used or needed one myself but If several people are liking it and repeating it, it cant be all that bad.
You should see what is in my stock Gen 5 Camaro mufflers.....Basically nothing. It's just about an empty suitcase.

Flowmaster 40s are what I'm running in the video I put up earlier. back in post #19.
Two thoughts on what you're suggesting along with them.
1. Cherry Bombs SUCK as do most glass packs......restrictive flow designs can tune your sound for sure but they are HP and Torque killers.
2. H Pipes are a WINNER for sure. Better sound and likely a small Torque and HP increase........just be sure to weld into MANDREL BENT pipes........not CRUSH BENT as in your photo. No need to go crush bent today......lots of Mandrel bent pipe options out there. It's amazing how SMALL the interior of a given pipe gets when it's crush bent. That's flow and HP tossed away needlessly.

Hi!
To be really a**l, it's a 1/4-wave resonator - similar to a Helmholtz, but very narrow-banded.
There is no point in fitting one just anywhere, you need to know what the resonances in are etc., but a well laid-out Helmholtz-system can work very well indeed!
On a side note: some of the best sounding Corvette exhaust notes to my ears, are those produced by ISO Grifos and Bizzarini 5300GTs (OK, not true Vettes, but the engines are). Anyone know what kind of muffler design those have? The systems are true duals, without X- or H-pipes, but I haven't been able to find out what mufflers they use...
