Default Raspy mufflers

Hi guys!

A bit of a "how long is a piece of string" question, but what is considered to be a good, raspy sounding muffler?
I got a semi quick car (0-60 in 5.5 s) with a street cam, true duals, high comp heads,... but I'm absolutely irritated by the droning of my mufflers after a 1.5h drive, they are flowmasters. Saw/heard a 69 mustang today with exactly the sound I like, didnt have the chance to ask him what mufflers he has.
Whats a good, raspy, muffler? It seems that flowmasters are famous for their drone. I will accept video's of your exhaust as well!
On the plus side, first meeting and held up well over the course of 200 km!

No obvious markings, but 40's are least restrictive, if you have both sise my side, you may be able to notice the internal welds for baffling, ,,,, ,

Also ,, you'll never get your Corvette to sound like a mustang,,lol,, physics and genetics, just won't let it happen, ,, you have a better chance at a successful sex change operation, then that ever happening,

You will find the right muffler for you,,

Found 2 receipts, only 1 stating the mufflers but I know they're flowmasters on the car.

If you like the flowmaster sound but don't want the drone use the 50 series mufflers. I have them on mine and no drone at all.

How old are the mufflers?
Did they sound unsatisfactory when you got this car from the prior owner or is this a recent problem?

14 years as far as I know, although they were only used for about 4000 miles according to the miles registered etc.

They always sounded like this, it was a tad "better "in the beginning, but I didnt have the cam etc then. Didnt drive the car either because it was an absolute rust bucket.

A lot of Mustang guys like to use Spintech mufflers and they do sound pretty good, but no way of telling if that's what you heard. I have Hooker Max Flows and like them.

Oh, OK. Thanks. Hooker Max Flows do not have a drone, 2.5" true dual pipes all the way back with a "X" pipe.
Also, here is something to consider that I found years ago...

I have the Flowtech Terminators on my 75 with modified L48, ceramic coated headers, 2 1/2" straight back and no crossover. I can cruise the back roads at 55 and have a conversation with my wife. At full song it gets real angry real fast.

I'm running Pypes Violators which are stainless throughout, and a straight through design. There is almost no drone with the three inch pipes I have, and I'd imagine they'd be quieter with a smaller pipe size.
This video I took running open headers at idle, but even with the exhaust on the sound is pretty much the same at idle. Cruise speed the sound is very reasonable, but at WOT they absolutely roar.

Not to hijack this thread, but I love your hood and your motor sounds nice. I will have to post a vid of mine uncapped, sounds gnarly for a CF. Since my 82 looks like the same color or very close to yours and I wanted to install that L88 hood, know I know what it should look like...I like it. Where did you buy your hood from and how much work did you have to do to make it fit correctly? Thank you and sorry for the hijack to OP.

When you buy your hood make sure it has the correct hood prop mounts for the 82, I bought mine from Tamaraz on ebay and does not have all the mounting bolts for the 79 hood prop.

It's an Eklers hood. Fit perfect, but I did shim the front hinges slightly to raise the front edge.

I posted this video in another thread already but these are flowmaster 40s. Hooker headers and mandrel bent exhaust for a C3.

you'll want to be sure you want LOUD though....... it's very loud on WOT and not an especially peaceful cruising environment when the "tops" are on the car. Open air though, I think they are fine when cruising but this isn't a daily driver. Not sure I'd be as sanguine about the noise if I had to drive this car everyday.

You could simply add an “H” pipe to try and address the drone. I am running 40’s and they only have drone from 1500-1700rpm under load (which is fine). I have 2-1/2” full exhaust, long tubes and a 1-1/2” cross pipe behind the trans support. Sounds nice and very tolerable at freeway speeds - but not quiet by any means.
