Just a guess but since I'm pretty sure that's the common terminal it might be a spot for a single conductor connector leading to a secondary switch. Cars very often have a master window control on the driver door with secondary ones on the others. That would allow the same switch to be used in both applications.

No idea. It could be intentional or it could be a manufacturing defect (as I suspect). If the connector will not engage with it properly, cut it to the length required to function properly.
