Any thoughts on the easiest way to replace my wiper switch? do I have to remove the speedo/tach cluster, or can i reach it under the dash? This is different than the earlier C-3s. The drivers side dash pad doesn't come out by itself. Any thoughts?
Question 1 - why does it need to be replaced. On my '80 I had it quit working properly. Put into normal speed it worked but once on pulse it would cycle just once. Then if I moved it to normal or fast it wouldn't run. If I then turned it off and went back to normal speed, it worked again. The problem was in the module that controls the pulse function. The module is under the plastic bin insert behind the passenger seat. Expensive fix is to replace the module. Cheap fix is to permanently jumper a couple contacts in the connector to the module. The cheap fix loses the pulse function, but as I don't intentionally drive in the rain, that's not an issue.
I didn't say that the wipers didn't work. I need to replace the switch because someone was digging into a problem (don't know what yet) and broke the **** off. The wiper motor is new and the module has been replaced with a new one from electric limited. So, that being said, how do i remove the switch?
Go to the bottom 2 posts. One is from Wilcox and provides their instructions, but adds some guidance to attempt to do it short of pulling parts of the steering column. The other is a link to some documentation put together by another member with photos of his steps.
Vettgost,
You will need to remove the dash cluster to allow easy access - I can'r even imagine short-cutting it from below. (the well-intended prior poster was not aware that the wiper switch had been designate back to the dash from the turn signal stalk in '80-82's). While you have it out consider replacing its original (?) headlight switch which was affordable and easy.
