I have finally got my 81 Corvette to start and run after its 3 month trip to Aus from New York, it would fire and stop straight away, I tried all the possible causes and as i was about to leave it to the expensive Auto Electrician I put my test light into the 12 volt pin in the 2 wired plug that is normally connected to a black sensor or valve that sits on top of the Rochester Quadraget jut above the fuel inlet to the carby. With ignition on the test light was showing power I Left it unplugged and it started and ran beutifully while idleing I recconected the blue plug and it suffered straight away and within 5 to 15 seconds stopped running ,I disconnected the blue plug and it started and seems to run fine. What am I disconnecting and is it necessary? the belt on the pollution compressor has not been their for quiet some ti
Is the part of the plug on the carb blue (typically but maybe it's been changed already)? If so that's the mixture control solenoid. Don't know if they are supposed to run without it or not

Sounds like a problem with the ECM or the wiring, rather than with the carb. If it runs OK with mixture solenoid electrical disconnected, it SHOULD run OK when connected...unless the signal is wrong or the wiring for the signal is wrong.
If I remember correctly, unplugging the blue solenoid connector lifts the primary metering rods up, allowing a full rich mixture. I drove my '81 like that for a while, and other than poor gas mileage the car ran very well. As previously indicated there may be a problem in the wiring or the ECU in the battery compartment.
