Does anyone know for certain what the marks on the water temp gauge of my '81 are?
In the pic, the first is 100. What is the next? 150? It seems like it is a little closer to the third mark 200 than centered between 100 and 200? I'm guessing that the two after 200 are 220 and 240 before 260
150, 200, 210, 220, and HOT! I believe that is what was intended for those marks. The original gauge and sender combinations were only accurate within +/- 10*F or so. Don't expect "precision"....especially if the sending unit is 40 years old OR has been replaced. All that gauge is expected to do is "tell" you if the warmed engine is at the running temperature that you normally see...OR if it is NOT at the normal temp.
Should run "Normally just under the 200 mark". Get to know normal. If it's running hotter than 200 verify reading with a temp sensor gun. Once you know "Normal". If it's starting to run hot, you'll know it.
