Default Socket & Wrench Sizes

I’m doing research before i buy a C3 and would like to know the common sizes used on these cars. I read in a older forum that it pretty much only takes 3/8”, 7/16”, 1/2”, 9/16”, 5/8”, 1”, 1-5/16” to disassemble the whole car. Is that it or are there any other sizes that would be needed? I already have a large collection of tools, i’m just making sure i have everything i would need before i get a C3.

depends on year/ depth as i have a few metric too in some cases..
small SAE 1/4 inch sockets are good.. you need a full set of SAE not just the ones listed...shallow and deep (flex always good) .. always good to have flex wrenches, that would get you started..oh and a BFH

Agreed, plus extensions for the above. And, depending on how far into mechanic-ing one gets, a lb/ft torque wrench is a good thing to add to make sure connections and bearings are appropriately loaded.

Don't forget a nice solid 1/2" breaker bar.

There are some larger interior bolts at 13/16"

If it's a project car, I'd recommend a set of bolt extractors in many of those sizes as well.

Don’t forget the ATM card. Deep with an extension. Metric or SAE is not important

Door strike round bolt, typical on most older GM vehicles is Torx. On my convertible, they need adjusting about once a year.

I think there's some metric stuff too, but that may have just been what Bubba had at hand, at the time.

If you want to dissasemble the car, you will need a bigger tool box.

My 77, none metric. But I certainly have a lot more wrench sizes than listed above. Plus swivel sockets. Punches And chisels. And as stated above, you'll need a bigger tool box. Air compressor for certain. 1/2 inch impact airwrench.
multi meter. And on and on.

Blue Tip crescent wrench (torch)

Rotary high speed material removal instrument (angle grinder)

Order up a couple of extra 5-gallon buckets of patience and a can or two of PB Blaster, you'll need it to keep from using tools #1 and #2 in excess.

If your premise were true, I wouldn't have accumulated all the other sizes that I have in my "stash".....
