Default Driving my car without diff snubber

Can I drive my car without the diff snubber in place? It will be about 2 miles, at about 15-20 MPH, and mostly downhill.
I started the pinion seal job, and realised this was going to be a LOT easier on my buddy's hoist, with his help, and he's arriving tonight.
I hate the idea of fighting the thing back into place, just to have to take it off 15 minutes later.

I would pound a piece of wood in there, and just take it easy.

i was gonna suggest a hunk of rubber. wood is easier to trim to fit. Bubbalicious! accelerate gently up to traffic speed. just no tire smoke or wheelies...

I would jack up the car, remove the diff, have your buddy come over to go over the repair.

There you go being all sensible!

I often use the expression "If we were in the desert, we could probably do (idea or use part) to get home, but we don't have to do that, so we can do it right".

I like some of the other ideas here a lot, but you are right.. it wouldn't be too much effort to take out the diff at home first.

Ok, thanks. I'll fit a piece of wood into place and take it very gently.

The answer to your original question is "yes"....as long as you wait until the engine has warmed and choke is off before you drive it. Then keep transmission gear changes "soft and gradual" and you should be good for a short drive.

Duct taping a piece of wood in there would be a better idea, however.

And pray you don't have to lock the brakes to avoid an obstacle that pops up in front of you such as a car, basketball, child.......... Imo, it's a bad choice. But, hey, it's your car.

what about punching a hole in the wood and bolting it in place? brakes have little effect on the diff. calipers will put torque on the trailing arms they are bolted to that will push down on the front bushings. step on gas hard and diff lifts in front. snubber softens the upward push and spreads it out some.
