I put one in a few years ago, also a front camera at the same time (future front spoiler / curb view so I'll be able to see the paint being ground off).
Both are really pointing more down than back. I want to see curbs, anything else I can see looking out the windows new-parking-cameras
(ok so really it's like most things I do and it was just because I wanted to rather than actually practical)

I saw something online that can use the existing mirror and just wraps/mounts to it; probably doesn't look as clean, but should work without any modifications to the existing hardware.

I guess you cant read. Maybe if you could then you would understand the issue. So get on your short bus, go back a couple of comments and maybe you might be able to follow the conversation.

Be great to have one. Wouldn't want the video screen for the interior since it'd interfere with the stock late 60s, early 70s interior appearance. Be fantastic if the backuip screen appeared on my iPhone 6s.

I have been looking at one one amazon. Has a front and rear camera and constant recording dash cam features

I bought one for ~$40 at a NAPA Store and it simply needed power run to the camera and then the little 4" screen would show you what was there if anything. No wiring other than to supply power to receiver and Camera and you have live video streaming.
I did not use it on a C3 but instead on a 28" Lazy Daze RV. The way I wired it whenever I turned on the running lights it would turn on and send me a live feed from the rear of the RV. I have a big back window but it is useless when close to things so the camera is very handy. Having it on when the lights are turned on makes the most sense in my application as I can watch the nuts behind me.
I will continue swinging my head around to check, can't teach old dogs new tricks. I started my driving on a Motorcycle and got my first 140,000 miles driving motorcycles. Switching to cars was difficult as I still "watch" the drivers around me to be sure they "see me" or else I get away from them. Paranoia.....
At first I thought this is crazy. But I have run into stuff in the garage twice now since I keep underestimating how long the front of the car is. I found that I do better with the lights popped up. But maybe I should consider a front camera. And if I do a front, may as well do the rear as well. Or maybe I just need to learn the size of the car.

Cheap easy fix:
Hang a ball on a string from the ceiling to hit your windshield when you are in your garage far enough. Or use wood block for the front tire to run up against like a 2X4 and glue it down to the garage floor. You don't need to glue it if you don't want to. What I have done put it place where it needs to be and took a marker and make a line on each side of the 2X4 for location marking so I could move it to wash or sweep the floor.
