Default New Shop

I recently moved and the new place already had a 30' x40' shop. I added onto the side and rear of it to make the working area 50'x 52' for 2600 sq. ft. I also added a 15'x37' covered parking area on the side with a 15'x15' foot "mini storage" area at the rear of it for all that stuff that doesn't belong in a Hot Rod shop!

So it's been a lot of work putting things together. Made more fun by it hanging in the 100* range in TX lately...which meant often work didn't begin until 9PM and go to 2-4AM sometimes.

It had the beginnings of an apartment being built...so I tore that apart and moved the floor area to the left rear to create a mezzanine for storage as well as a covered "man cave" area. Then I added a bunch of LED light fixtures in addition to adding LED bulbs to the existing fluorescent lights. Then we epoxied the floors.

I decided to get rid of lots of stuff I've been hauling around for years...like 40 years of Hot Rod etc magazines. I donated them to the the TX Prison system (I've got a buddy who's an instructor there). Figured I learned a lot from them...maybe they'll help someone else gain some passion for this stuff. And a few trips to the dump cleaned up a lot more.

Anyway, not finished yet...but finally functional.

JIM

P.S. Yes...those are Pinto's in the rear! The red one was bought new by my Dad and I drove it in high school. Ran 14.60's with a milled head, cam, headers, 4.11's etc etc. The white one is for parts (even though it's in nicer shape). I've already gathered an 8.8 posi rear, and NOS Hedman Husler headers for a Boss 302 type swap with Cleveland heads. Will likely have an 8-71 bolted to it and for sure a stick trans!! LOL

Very nice 👍
I bought a 72 Vega new off the lot and with 36 miles on it and the help of a Don Hardy kit dropped a 327/365 and Muncie 4 speed in it. Later an 8 3/4 Chrysler rear went in.. then a 496 with a tunnel ram then it all went into a 74 Camaro updated to a 79 then a lenco and a Dana, good luck with the pinto.

It's there...just out of site to the right on the wall with the other flags. For sure couldn't leave it out!

Mine came factory with slot mags. It was a blast because at the time new Z-28's and Trans Am's (late 70's) ran 15's at best. The Pinto embarrassed a lot of them. Had to drive it right though....lots of RPM kept the tires spinning (B50x13's)...'cause if it ever hooked up it didn't have enough power to pull back! I went through a lot of transmissions though......

V-8 Vega's are cool and good looking. There's a couple in my hometown still running around. Worked on a lot of them that friends built. Similar combo's...seems like a lot had 8-3/4's under them and 12 bolts. I test drove one with a big block once....it was a handful. It never had frame connectors etc and when you nailed it you could stick your hand through the gap between the door and body! LOL

I'm going to stiffen up the Pinto a little !

Very nice......dream shop
Why not 4am to Noon to work.......or do you like evenings.......the heat has been hanging on like a bitch after 7 for the last week......
I find myself up at 4am on the weekends to work on stuff at 5am.........work til noon, close the garage and flip the A/C on......but I like sunlight so try to wait a while before closing it up. The heat should break here in a couple of days according to The Weather Channel.....can't wait! Yesterday was 82 at 5am with 89% humidity
When I was 15.....a girl across the street liked to sneak over to Canada for the day......she would go with her friend and leave me her 78 Brown Pinto 5 speed to drive all day......I would pick up my buddies and drive down the dirt roads all day.......man I thought I was the S#&t even if it was a Pinto......

I'm sort of a night owl.....so it works to head outside after work in the evenings. I work from home...so it's an easy commute!

I'm hoping for cool weather....have some Vette work I need to get done. We've got friends from New Braunfels coming up for the weekend.

YES! That shop layout is begging for a chassis dyno next to the lift. A nice used DD would be great to put your beast on it and tweak away.
