What's your idle RPM? Did you check for nozzle drip?
I’ve now got it idling nicely around 800 RPM. As soon as I started firing on 8 instead of on 5 I was able to close the throttle blades WAY down to a normal opening. Nothing dripping.
If your idle timing is ~12 degrees and you've got some vacuum advance getting you to 30, that should be fine. What happens if you go less than 30 initial?

30° is with vacuum disconnected. If I try any less the engine dies.
That sure sounds like a vacuum leak to me. Too lean at idle, etc.
Try blocking off all the vacuum from the engine to the car.
Put them back one at a time.
