then it is 1/4-20 or 5/16th-18. steal a valve cover bolt to see if 1/4. steal a top radiator bracket bolt to see if 5/16th. or run to home depot and buy a couple of each at 15 cents each...

the 5/16th-18 bolt fit, but it stopped going in after 2 threads - only using finger strength, I didn’t want to use tools unless I was 100% sure it would thread.
Did I get the wrong 5/16th-18 or do I need to clean/chase the threads?.
stick something smaller in there to see how deep the hole is then wd40 and screw bolt in and out until you get enough length screwed in. then get the right length bolt so it pulls tight on cable before it bottoms out in the hole. you can use a couple of washers as shim if necessary.
IIRC, 5/16"-18 and 1/2" long. Length is all relative to the parts you are using. Trial and error.
There is the bracket thickness, cable end and external-tooth star washer. that you are securing if that is what you plan on doing.
The ones I got are an inch long I think, I’ll get shorter ones if needed. I just wanted to mention that the bolts didn’t want to thread and see if there was anything specific I should be doing about it.
and of course, I finally get all my parts - and it’s supposed to rain for the next week.
I think I’ll spray penetrating oil up in there, let it soak, then spray it out with brake cleaner/wipe it out and try the bolt again.
cheapie quicky. 1 inch bolt with a nut on it. screw bolt in until it stops. screw nut down to clamp the cable to the block.
hey so how reliable are “reproductions of originals”?
because I bought these cables thinking they were pure copper but nope. I know pure copper is better, so how “bad” is what ever is in this cable?
I bought the positive/negative from corvette America, so it’s technically a sturdy reliable... but not pure copper
That install is not the original placement of the ground wire. Someone moved it from the starter front support and engine mount frame bracket. Those bolt and nut maybe the original on the frame but missing the star washer. It also appears they may have used the fuel pump push rod access bolt. Used to hold the push rod when changing the fuel pump.
I don’t think it’s in my abilities to pull and replace this cable.
I think I’ve found all the clamps that need to be undone, all “easy” to get too. Except the one that’s way up in the transmission tunnel.
even if I could drop the cable, I don’t think I’d be able to get it back up and secured.
and the bolts aren’t fitting the ground hole. They go two threads in and stop. I don’t want to force it?. But this is obviously the correct size right?.? Edit, these bolts are fitting. I used a wrench carefully and they started to thread, my fingers weren’t strong enough to make it turn past it apparently.

Do most of the mini starters have a provision for the starter bracket / shield? I had the original 500lb starter in my car up until recently, but my shield / bracket is long gone. My engine is out right now and going to replace it with a mini - should I get a bracket too?

mine is currently missing it’s shield/bracket. And I was told that I should get mine, so I’d say yes.

Do you have enough slack in the positive cable to pull it forward enough to try replacing the end terminal?
Maybe the rest of the cable is good.
Bit of a spoiler, but I had my corvette towed to a shop 5 weeks ago(flat bed of course). Cause I just had enough, and I finally got it back today.
I don’t know if this will notify those that have helped me, if y’all even care.
but my Vette needed an Ignition coil, ignition rotor, ignition control module and a distributor cap.
I’ll probably send my vette back to this shop to fix my windows / help me with the interior(wiring a mess).
