Default Clutch help

Hello! While shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear on my 1979 L82 my clutch went all the way to the floor. I was able to pull on a side street and on the floor is the rod pin that connects the clutch pedal to the pedal push rod. I tried getting it back on since I was only .5 miles away from home but I could not get it all the way on. It was my first time I had to call for a tow!

Any suggestions on replacing it? I am looking for a link with the part that I am missing as well. I see some with spacers/cotter pins and others that do not. The old rod pin that came off does not look like it can be reused. What is the best way of tackling this job? I assume slide in the rod pin to the push rod, then washer (if needed), then to the clutch pedal and then cotter pin to hold it in? Thanks for all your help!

I have the factory assembly manual and use Willcox as well. http://repairs.willcoxcorvette.com/c...ion-1968-1981/

Pretty much sounds like you answered your own question. Yes washer than cotter pin. really, don't over think it.

You have the AIM just follow that and you'll be good. Might think about checking out Speed-Directs linkage kit unless you're into originally. SD kit gets rid of all the pins and springs.

There is a correct way to fold a cotter key and a ss would be harder key to break off. These Harbor Freight keys are not aircraft keys maybe for a go-cart! All the hardware on the shelves today are not tempered and just soft material. Just watch what you buy.

Thank you all for the advice! After further investigation, the rod pin and washer came completely off and there is also no hole for the cotter pin so I assume the cotter pin sheared off (although I can't find it) and the remnants of the cotter pin is stuck in the pin hole.

I tried looking for the part but couldn't find just a pin (washer and cotter pin) and in the assembly manual I can not find information on it. It is basically the diagram I attached above from Willcox. Also, upon inspection of the clutch pedal, I can not find the hole where the new pin would go through to the push rod. I am trying to figure out how exactly (and where to buy) this rod pin goes through the clutch pedal to the push rod.

I found this part, but it doesn't seem as if it would be able to go through the clutch pedal to the pedal push rod. I hope that makes sense! Thank you for your help! https://www.ecklerscorvette.com/1955...-101623-1.html

Retainer for the clutch pedal rod part "G" clip and spacer and Pedal. Look at the illustration for reference.

One other alternative is to drill out the base of the pin and install a new pin.

The connections (pin, washer, G clip) between the clutch pedal and the pedal push rod is what was on the carpet when the clutch went to the floor. I am looking for the pin too that connects it. All of this is under the dash and on the inside of the vehicle. Thanks again all.

If I remember correctly and if I am understanding what you are describing, that pin is part of the pedal and yours has broken off. You need a new clutch pedal.

Well that explains why I would not be able to put another pin in the push rod to the clutch pedal. It came factory welded on to the clutch pedal? Are there any alternatives to fixing this rather than putting on a whole new clutch pedal? It seems like a lot just for it to connect to the push rod.

No. You can repair the old clutch pedal by machining out the old pin and fabricating a new one to weld in, but that will still require removal of the clutch pedal, so you may as well pony up the $80 for a new clutch pedal assembly.

Well that explains why I couldn't get the pin back in the pushrod and clutch pedal!

I am going to need any and all of everyone's advice for how to install a new clutch pedal. Please help! Pics and or descriptions are welcome. I have my assembly manual to go by but your experiences are better!

Mine looked like that but the spot welds holding the pin in place had broken also. I replaced the pin.

Yep! That's what mine looks like but it ended up snapping off and ending up on the floor. Any tips on replacing the clutch pedal? I was in there last night and it's hard to see where it connects because the clutch pedal goes high up behind the dash.

After a lot of trouble shooting, I am trying to figure out how to get out the clutch pedal. The steering column and everything else is in the way. It is nearly impossible to get it out! Any suggestions?

Hopefully someone who has done this job can chime in but it doesn't look pretty. This is from my 78 service manual. Perhaps all these steps are not necessary but start a new thread with a headline clutch pedal removal might stimulate some responses.

Thanks for the response BKarol. I am looking at my 79 manual and showing the same. I am going to start a new thread. Thanks for the help!
