I have a 1978 corvette. I accidentally crossed the battery terminals and now the car won’t start. It has no crank at all

What were you attempting to do when you crossed the terminals?

First check the battery to see if it is still good.

It's kinda hard to reversethe cables on a 78. They are side terminal connections , and they are hard enough to get them on the correct side. Phisher ?

Default Hi and welcome

You most likely burned up 1 or 2 fusible links, which are down buy the starter.
You need a test light or a meter, do you have them?
Here's a schematic:

Post back you progress and someone will help you.

On the schematic the fusible links are 'thermal'

As Peterbuilt stated burned up fusible links at starter, do not bi-pass them, get new ones.

Batteries are made with + and - on either end. Different vehicles may use the same size battery but require the + on one end or the other. The people who sell these things have no clue what you really need.

With regard to what may have been damaged by reversing polarity to the car... I've never done that, so I don't really know what damage it could do. I'm thinking that the alternator would be the item that would most 'dislike' having the polarity reversed.
