I was posting about how to accomplish power without race car lumpy.

My vette has two powerful motors that don't really sound like what they are capable of

But I have custom cams

"I didn't really find an answer yet to the last question so I'll ask again, can anyone tell me if the l79 or l82 cam would a) give me +-350 hp, b) give me that with 9.5:1 compression?"

993 heads are easily capable of that kind of power with the L79 cam. We used to use 441, 336, 487 or 993 heads for circle track engines required to use 2bbl intakes and limited lift rule cams and make 320-330hp with them.

Even so it's not about peak HP, at 9.5 to 1 compression you really don't have enough squeeze for that much camshaft. The engine will be "soggy" and lackluster at lower RPM's. The factory put domed pistons in those engines using the L79 camshaft and 350/350's for a reason........

Default 12-1987 Hot Rod dyno

Here is what they tried in 1987 - looks really stupid now- just for grins:
8.5:1 targetmaster 350
L79 cam 295hp @ 6000
L82 cam 298- 6000
LT-1 cam 297 5500
L-79 cam, Aluminum corvette heads- stock- 306hp 5500- raises CR to 9.5:1
w/blended bowls, 3 angle valve job, LT-1 cam 327hp 6000

Rusty, I'm new on here but when I saw your post, I thought that you might like to have the following information. I had the 151 cam in my 82 firebird with 305 engine. It loped. A friend has a 67 with that cam in a 327 with the double hump heads and he has trounced 350/350 HP vetts. His engine also lopes and it sounds like it has a cam in it. BTW his 67 was running high 12s in the quarter.

the 151 cam in a 283 is a big cam
but in a 400 it is silky smooth.
PO had the 151 cam in my 72 w/355 when i bought it in 1990, it had a good idle, but only had 8.24:1 the PO didn't do any tuning and it pinged i tuned it and it drove great around town, but 0-60 was like 8.6 seconds so i tore it apart and discovered awful looking heads that had tiny intake ports that were so small i could not stick my fingers in sold them for $25

The heads on the 67 had good size ports and header side pipes. If it were pinging, you would never hear it. He just got it back on the road after sitting for about 20 years. It burning a little oil but seems to be running good. I joined this forum because I just got an 80 about 2 months ago.

knock light for LOUD cars
https://tunertools.com/products/link-g4-knock-light
works for deaf people too.

.
in 1972 i bought a 70 Challenger 383 Magnum 4spd, for $1000. the body rattled so bad, my dad said only a deaf guy would buy it. Guy came to look at it and he was deaf. Loved the car- that is what his friend doing the sign language translation said. Deal! Worth a mint today!

If you have air conditioning and an alternator you won't see the humps anyway.
To have any serious boost in power you are going to have some lope.

Default tip

put on a timing light at idle- advance should be rock steady. if it is moving around, it can't idle smooth.

That's only because you live in "The frozen wastes..." A/C is GOLD here on the Gulf Coast. 8:30 p.m. and 84 degrees here!

Actually... i live in THE warmest city in Canada. We get rainy winters, with MAYBE 2-3 days ov snow, and hot summers.

That said... i've lived in London Ontario... and that was disgusting. 55 degree (celcius!) all summer... with the humidity. That was the only place... ever... in my life... that i rolled up the windows in the car to get colder AC (rental). If i lived where some ov you do? Absolutely. But here? Nah...

I went to Texas once, in October. People there were wearing COATS. It was god damn 90 degrees! I couldn't see across a paved parking lot from all the heat waves... Walking around in a T-shirt people thought i was mad...

I say 'Frozen Wastes'... but where i am, it really isn't. That applies more to the personality ov the average citizen here...

Default removed ac in 1999 in FL- saved 95 pounds

trick to no ac is to keep top up and rear window tied open.
and avoid going out in the heat of the day, like after 10am.
and avoid traffic- cruising is fine but stops are HOT.

Reminds me of this time I took my best friend to a carshow. Wanted to be all fancy so we dressed in shirts and fancy pants ( like a suit).
35°C (95°F) in the shade. Combined with a car that ran 200° then with the heat coming through the trans tunnel.
my light blue shirt turned a nice dark blue. Ach the memories with my yellow vette...

Depends on where in Texas, it's 790 miles from north to south, 660miles across. Even in Dahlhart, coldest city in Texas, it's 77 degrees today. Only 9 degrees cooler than here on the island. I'm keeping my A/C!
