I have used Hedman hedders on my 1968 C3, they are the long tube version but if you are going to put on a set of headers you might want to explore a set of "Chambered Exhaust" pipes. The Chambered pipes are really nice and moderately quiet but compliment the headers and give you a ferocious sounding engine, better mileage and some extra performance. They are getting more scarce with Allen's SS Exhaust closing down but they are still out there. You eliminate the big bulky mufflers and back in the day you had a choice of sound level out back. I have a set of the Chambered pipes on my C4 as well and even that engine sounds ferocious. It is kind of similar to Side-pipe noise output going out behind you. They are also Much cheaper than the $830 exhaust systems....
When putting on the Hedman headers I never had to touch them with a hammer or anything. They fit perfectly and work great from the day you install them on the Corvette. I had a set for a 350 engine I used while I built my 427 and both sets fit the C3 like a glove.
