Still confused ?
However, Go ahead and experiment, if you wish. Progressively retard your ignition timing at idle and see what happens to your exhaust manifold temperatures.
unless the intent is to run WOT for prolonged periods of time, ie circle track racing, running with locked out timing is not ideal for street driven automobiles.
I run 36* of timing at idle. That is WITH vacuum advance however. Also run 51* at cruise, combo of mechanical, vacuum and initial.
since vacuum is not developed until the engine starts then all the starter has to deal with while cranking is initial timing. No need for clever work arounds to get the timing you want for max power and starting. All you need is there. It may need tweaking for your cam, intake, CR, rear gear, etc.
I guess I’m not seeing the advantage of SET ignition timing for an engine that runs under VARIABLE conditions and rpm’s.
If the op wants to run a locked timing though that’s his option.

really don't care for maintaining lash on this engine, just want to set it and be done....
Solid roller lash adjustment is more of a check when you use Allen locking rocker nuts along with a stud girdle. I'm also running .010 and .014 lash these days so they are quieter and don't beat up stuff. Valve float is a thing of the past.
