Default Update on Jim Shea

As many of you know, Jim Shea was a GM/Saginaw Design Engineer on the Corvette and GM steering columns. He has been an important and active technical contributor here on the CorvetteForum, and has provided multiple technical articles and contributions about the Corvette steering systems. Since his retirement, he has withdrawn from active involvement with the hobby, and is currently enjoying a peaceful retirement in Michigan with his wife. Jim is now 78 years old, and is still a wealth of technical knowledge. His e-mail address has been posted here on the Forum, and I know that many of you have been in contact with him for technical assistance.

It came to my attention today that Jim's e-mail has now been hacked. There are mass mailers coming from his e-mail address requesting assistance due to a serious Covid condition. Many of you here on the Forum, if you have ever contacted Jim via e-mail, may be on the recipient list for these fake e-mails. Be aware that if you receive an e-mail from Jim requesting assistance, it is NOT an e-mail from Jim. Jim is not sick, he does not have Covid, and he does not need you to buy Amazon Gift Cards for him. Likewise, if you send an e-mail to Jim's actual e-mail address, it will be intercepted before it gets to Jim, and you will be talking to the "fake Jim" who will promptly ask you for help and assistance with his "serious condition."

I talked to Jim today, and he is getting help with his hacked e-mail, so make sure you don't get sucked in by the "fake Jim" asking for your help... In the meantime, Jim is playing a serious and competitive game of Bridge while enjoying a very dry Martini.

Lars

I've been wondering what happened to Jim. I noticed that he basically stopped posting and I even looked around (google) to see if, well you know, but didn't find any records of him ("The rumours of my death have been greatly exaggerated")
Glad to hear he's doing alright, his technical postings here, like yours, are invaluable

I used to know a Jim Shea when I lived in Saginaw Michigan in the early 90’s. I wonder if that was his son. Not sure if father and son had the same name.

Glad to hear that he is still well and enjoying his time. His articles are a critical aspect of documenting things while we still have access to the folks who ACTUALLY did the work.

Thanks for the update!

It sucks to get hacked, worse yet for the hack to spread troubling rumors about ones health. I believe I crossed paths with Jim around the time of his retirement if that coincided with Nexteer (GM Saginaw Steering) selling it’s hydraulic power steering business to my company around 2014 or so. E-steer came online and phased out hydraulics for all but the high GVW trucks.

Ya Jim Shea valuable to this forum no doubt, just a bit surprised he is 78. Now if I can just get lars to tell me how to really fix an edelbrock carb I might buy a couple of them, sure don't like the way the secondaries are made on them.

Appreciate the heads up Lars. I'm sorry to hear that Jim had his mail hacked but also happy to hear he is not fighting COVID.
Thank you sir.

Son of a Saginaw fisherman?

Sorry, but I couldn’t resist. I’ve always liked that song.

Thanks, Lars, for the heads-up about the scam, and the update on Jim. The email hacking continues to be a problem. Unfortunately, many people click on the attachments that are sometimes included.

It’s great to hear Jim is doing well. I have learned so much information from reading the technical posts here, and am so grateful to the guys who do take the time to help and thoroughly explain.
