An update on the vette.
It has been three months and 1,700 miles since the last failure.
I made one change. I rembered that I had installed the control module from the old distributor into the new one for testing. I reinstalled the one that came with the new distributor. I don't know if this had any impact. The control module that I was testing was a little over 18 months old. I had replaced the orignal control module when the car 1st started dieing.
Also, I replace the starter solenoid due to random starter problems. Sometimes sticking and free spinning and twice not wanting to crank the engine. Te last time I had to peck on it with a hammer it get it to engage. New solenoid solved the starter issues. Doubt that it had anything to do with the engine dieing.
In summmary, I believe that the new distributor solved my problems with the car dieing. Most likely the pickup coil and/or the control module.
I appreciate all of the input from everyone in resolving this issue.
This will be my last post unless the problem reappears.
