Never heard such a thing before and I have been wrenching on Chevy's for 50 plus years.
It might be apocryphal, but that seems to be the prevailing wisdom in my circles. I do know of a case where an owner sandblasted the spring steel gear on his airplane and within a few months the gear collapsed. I have always suspected the problem may be more with stress concentration than with altered temper, but that is what I was taught by someone much more knowledgeable than I many years ago. Regardless, it is something that just isn't done by the better mechanics I know.

Reason: kant spel
Sandblasting nor grit shot blasting will be an issue..on these older springs within reason of course. Todays springs are different and corrosion will cause failure, that is why there is a huge layer of powder on oem springs now and to prevent corrosion and chipping to propagate corrosion.
for the cost of blasting and powder coating, you can get moog choice of spring already powder coated, so much easier to install as mentioned , and choice of ride with a new spring.
