i don't get it either. I just downshift to accelerate. Using the theory that an engine has to readily accelerate or else its being lugged would negate ever using 6th gear in a T56....

I have the wide ratio TKX that I'm putting in a 69 GMC 910. I'm not worried about driving with the 0.72 5th at all but I think/hope the lower ratio gear will help when I'm towing with it.

I converted my 74 from a TH400 to the TKX close ratio a little over a year ago. I love it, its the single best upgrade I have done to the car. The whole process took me about 40 hours of wrench time working by myself nights and weekends with the car on jackstands.

Im running a 3.55 rearend

Bikespace that B&W 4 speed hangs in there pretty good with the 3.07 gears

My buddy George and I drive different roads. We both have Big Blocks.
He wants to use 5th gear at 50-55 on 2 lane roads, @ 1900rpm.. So he has 411 gears. He had 373s and did not like them for those roads.
I want mine to act like a 4spd and then use the OD gear on the interstate. Around here that is 75mph + or you get run over. I won't use 5th until 65mph @ 1900.. I have 323s.

If you have a SB with a big high rpm cam you might want to keep it at 2500+ even in cruise.
So there is no one correct answer.

I bet that big block with 4:11’s is pretty spicy off the line!
