Hi I was buttoning up things on suspension and chassis and noticed the shifter levers had some play to them . Can anyone tell me if that is correct, or they should be torqued or snugged . Thank
you
The levers shouldn't be loose on the side cover fork studs. They need to be securely attached to the threaded studs.
I looked through the service and overhaul manuals for '63 & '72 and don't see any torque specs for the levers' nuts on the side cover. The cover itself is secured at 15-20 lbft so that's probably a safe number to use on the levers.
In your pic,,, the lock washer appears to be flat. (locked) . And 15-25lbs or less will 'lock' the washer. If the arm seems loose, im guessing its not the nuts and washers.
