Default Torque question

Hi I was buttoning up things on suspension and chassis and noticed the shifter levers had some play to them . Can anyone tell me if that is correct, or they should be torqued or snugged . Thank

you

Impossible to tell how much play you have from a still picture. Put a wrench on the nut and see if it is loose.

The levers shouldn't be loose on the side cover fork studs. They need to be securely attached to the threaded studs.
I looked through the service and overhaul manuals for '63 & '72 and don't see any torque specs for the levers' nuts on the side cover. The cover itself is secured at 15-20 lbft so that's probably a safe number to use on the levers.

Found this AIM diagram inside another thread on the Muncie 4-speed. The torque spec for those bolts is 15-24 lbs ft.

There is always some wobble, but if the rather short stub shaft is loose in the case, that is a bushing problem.

And since your pic is oily, and the seals may be leaking, check that.

In your pic,,, the lock washer appears to be flat. (locked) . And 15-25lbs or less will 'lock' the washer. If the arm seems loose, im guessing its not the nuts and washers.
