Supposed to be an original 454, has a 4 speed manual, and A pilar VIN is matching, but last two digits on engine are not as deep as the rest.
Opinions?
I'm far from a stamp expert but will say the VIN looks OK to me. The number shapes all seem to be typical Chevrolet - even the three variations for the 1 - and are all aligned. You can see that the gang holder is struck really heavily on the left and diminishes you read to the right -- it was likely not placed against the pad with equal pressure. You also have character blocks with varying heights, so some numbers leave a lighter impression than others.
The vin derivative was stamped on the transmission case at the same time as the engine pad... what does that stamp look like?
Typically the same person loaded the holder and used it for the engine and transmission. So typically the same idiosyncrasies appear in both places.

Thanks, good to know, but I was not able to look at the transmission stamp when I looked at the car.
