mine was a weak rewind spring and just being dirty... Cleaning and oiling with a clock oil does wonders. MIne loses a second every 2 or 3 days if I remember correctly. Its been ticking away beautifully on a power supply for a couple of weeks now.
When I took apart the interior of my '71, the clock had a sticker on the back. I suspect it was done a dozen or so years ago....

Ive filed the contacts and cleaned the mechanism with success on a number of clocks. Some choose to convert to a quartz movement. I have one in my 66. Since all my collectibles have battery disconnects I do not fool with any of the clocks - don't want to reset them every time I drive.
