Re: C3 getting bashed on C4 general discussion (eleven79)
an azz for every seat
you say you like C3's up until the chrome came off? :nonod: -- that's dumb, considering your C4 doesn't have any chrome.
i love the look of the C4, the only fault i can find with them is that cheezy azz digital dashboard...as a matter of fact, i think all GM cars produced in the 80's have cheezy looking interiors...IMO -- still think C4's are neat, and i actually wouldn't mine owning one someday...
I liked C3's until the chrome came off, a C4 with chrome would not be possible with the lines of the car. I have chrome on my car is the right places for it (i think anyway ) Wheels and door handles and Muffler Tips. I think the C3 roadsters with chrome are sweet jsut a classic look. My opinion is that they tried to take a car (the C3) that looked great the way it was designed and make it modren for the late 70's and early 80's and didnt pull it off quite right. Again no flames just my opinion. I think removing the chrome ruined them although i also know the fed had something to do with it. The same can probably be said for the C4. I love the later C4's 91-96. I like the cockpit in these cars and the rounded bumpers. I wish they were like that from the start ( i used to have an 84 was i was in college and loved it but rally wanted a later C4 which i got soon after graduation). the C5 was several years overdue by 1997 although still a striking machine today. Anywas as was stated the only thing that matter is that YOU like YOUR car. I couldnt agree more. I love mine and i am sure owners of the late 70's -82 love their, its just not for me.
Re: C3 getting bashed on C4 general discussion (eleven79)
I agreed withalot that was being said. I have a 75 and when I got it it had only 48,000 miles on it and thing had lousy brakes, gutless performance and a dead suspension. I would never choose it for my daily driver, total lack of passenger room , couldn't go to the local hardware and expect to carry anything. The only thing that attracted me about the corvette was the fiberglass body, nothing else.
Today I have more horsepower then almost any car on the road, fantastic brakes and a soft long travel suspension. Still can't carry anything larger then a case of beer but I have my truck or my wife's car for those things.
I have owned my corvette for I think 14 years this summer and spent way more on it then if I bought a C4 or C5.
Re: C3 getting bashed on C4 general discussion (1969c3mandy)
absolutely...nothing wrong with a fella speeking his mind, but comparing a C4 to a C3 is like comparing apples to oranges... i have said it before, and i'll say it again...i love all corvettes, some more than others...honestly, every time i see a vette goin down the street, regardless of year, i always double-take...save the wave!
Re: C3 getting bashed on C4 general discussion (1969c3mandy)
Both of these threads have been amusing. Amazing how many different point of view on the same cars. I thought I'd never own a C4. Lack of styling, power, etc. Now I own one.
One of the comments that was really strange was that C3's are "uncomfortable". I've owned several C3,'s 4's and 5's. The C5 and the C3 are about the same to me. The C4 is a Pain in the AZZ in all respects of comfort. But I do enjoy the power of the Z.
Re: C3 getting bashed on C4 general discussion (eleven79)
I love em' all.....enough said. Hopefully, my garage will some day hold a 96 grand sport to keep my c3 and my dad's c2 company. My father is looking for a c5 to add to the mix too. :hurray:

Re: C3 getting bashed on C4 general discussion (SIGNGUY)
i love Vettes...period...
BUT having said that i really dont understand what would make a person buy a C-4...
to me they are Vette wannabees...they look more like a Firebird than a Vette...
IMO they have no style almost to the point of being ugly...
the normal backyard mechanic (me) can not work on them because of the computer system...
there is NO WAY i would EVER even consider buying one...
in fact...i would buy a Rustang before i would buy one...seriously
this is not ment to be a slam or anything as i know that we are all diferent and that is cool...i just wanted to vent my humble but correct opinion on this subject...
:nonod: I don't even no where to begin with this one.
Re: C3 getting bashed on C4 general discussion (flyersfan1088)
I had a 90 quasar blue ZR1 paid 55k for it.. loved the color and the cockpit// BUT I could not work on it. I actually bought my '79 for the rear window and the fact that the owner took the time to paint it. I took care of the resrt. It has been a long three years, but I love it.. I will post pics soon. The earlier C4's wer ugly.. Cockpit looked like a tank (flat front), but the 90 + interior were cool! Would I change, NO WAY. IU have a car I can work on and upgrade. I am pumping 380 HP.. but I do get sick of the people wantinf to challenge me.. mostly boneheads.. but a light yesterday as a 83 Ferrari paced me and we had some fun!
Re: C3 getting bashed on C4 general discussion (eleven79)
I saw a lot of good stuff in that thread, a lot of honesty.
I was right there with the guy in the first post, after I drove my first C3. Then, I realized it was an Olds powered C3 (305). I walked away and forgot about Vettes for awhile. Then I found mine. And it may have been slower. Even if my Vette wasn't slower than that 305, there was so much wrong with my car, I was afraid to push.
Now that she's all better, I sing a much different tune. But that's the thing with these cars. It depends on what you're driving/riding in. Based on looks alone, they may be a love it or leave it proposition. Base on performance, again, it depends on the individual C3. Most later, stock C3's aren't Earth movers, not by today's standards. But like someone else said, it's an apples to oranges comparison.
To each his own, I say. I love the 70's. I love the music, the whole era.
But I also love the 80's, and I plan to add a C4 to my stable, some day soon.
What kills me, is how many people I've spoken to, who seem to hold a lot of indifference towards the C4. Back in high school, the C4 was my fantasy. And in many ways, still is. But a few of my customers, and buddies, said "so what?" They couldn't understand why I liked the C4 so much.
Re: C3 getting bashed on C4 general discussion (joeveto)
I remember when I first saw a C4. I was following a "new" Vette and I wanted a closer look. My first impression was how big the taillights were. I loved how you could clearly see the rear suspension and the exhaust system (something that was obscured on C3's because of the spare tire holder).
GM kind of changed that with the C5. They should have made the rear bumper not go down as far as it does.
I like seeing all that mechanical poopie. I must be a gearhead

Re: C3 getting bashed on C4 general discussion (eleven79)
I don't think anyone in any of the posts was purposefully trying to bash any of the other generations ... but there sure are allot of opinions flying. :yesnod:
You do have to admit... the whole thing _is_ pretty  :lolg:
Re: C3 getting bashed on C4 general discussion (gb4622)
I really only "love" one generation  I RESPECT all other Corvettes as Corvettes, but I "LIKE" C2s, C1s & C4S & C5s, I JUST DON'T LOVE them. Hhhmmmmmmmmm, had a girlfriend that told me that too & ........
Re: C3 getting bashed on C4 general discussion (robertpel9)
robert, i don't find your comments terribly offensive. i've seen quite a few late '70s/early '80s that are really just trash. that's not to insinuate that they came out that way, it's just what 20+ years of driving and 'regular car' maintenance can do to any car.
i did some work for a friend of a friend who owns a '91 'vert and it was a ragged out POS. again, it's not the car or the way it came off the assembly line, it was the 12 years of mis-use and abuse the car suffered since then.
for most of us, the c-3 has a special place in our hearts and in history. like another poster said, pick any car, and i'll add not just US made but any mass produced car from the era and see how the c-3 stacks up. i doubt that you will find a car that beats the c-3 hands down.
part of the fun you'll see on this forum is the amount of us who constantly work to make our c-3 run and perform with the c-4 and c-5. talk about a challenge!
no hard feelings. i wouldn't drive an automatic vette of any vintage, that's my preference. some people wouldn't waste their time with a stick, or a convertible, or a certain body style. differences are good.
Re: C3 getting bashed on C4 general discussion (clutchdust)
Its very difficult to compare past generations, the cars are changing ever so fast every 7 years now. each generation does have its own problems regardless if the car is brand new or not. I like all years because it is a Corvette - by the way, I am able to setup the stock q-JET on my own, ask a new owner if he could do the same, although ask me about Fuel injection and I would not know where to start - each generation has its owners that are able to work on that year with no problems at all and are very famialr with the car, this has always been the case - I am familar with the 1980s corvette but take me back to non HEI and again I am lost - all the cars are good and still are capable of beating anything else that was made at that time :)
Re: C3 getting bashed on C4 general discussion (RATT7)
When I read the title of this post, I knew there would be some C4 bashing here.
I owned a '94 C4 for 4 years (sold in 2000) and have owned my '69 C3 for 4 years. IMHO, the C4 was eaiser to work on. The computer actually helps you tune the car. If it is running lean, it will tell you. If there is a misfire, it will tell you (OBDII). Change the cam, guess what, there is no tuning to do on the MAF equipped OBDI models. Someone who says they are harder to work on just doesn't know how to and usually does know the older engines. Of course it's easier to work on an engine you're already familiar with. The down side is that if you do any extensive mods (ported heads and intake), you need to get it dyno tuned, but that is a good idea for non-computer cars as well.
If I were buying another 'vette now, I'd for sure get another C4. The power and handling are just incredible for what they cost now.
Re: C3 getting bashed on C4 general discussion (parklawn)
[QUOTE]As far as I am concerned......there 2 kinds of Corvettes.........nice ones and REALLY nice ones.............but then what do I know.......... :D :D :D
Just because we own Corvettes, doesn't mean we _have_ to like other generations. There is absolutely no reason to bash Robert for having personal preferences. How many of us dislike C4s? or C5s? I'm sure there is a fair number. When Dep said that all late model C3s "are just Caprices with a Corvette VIN and badge", he sure didn't create the same amount of commotion. "Can't we all just get along?" :grouphug:
