Just picked up a Be Cool radiator. They gaurntee 20 degree drop is it true? Sounds good but we will find out this weekend. What do you think? :steering:
I currently have a 180 my car runs at 210 with a stock rad. That's with a edelbrock pump. The current rad doesn't have enough cooling capacity so it will never run at 180. I would like to see it meet there claim if possible. I Just wanted to see how many people have had these results if any. And what type of fan they are running. I currently have a 7 blade with a bbc clutch.
I love the be-cool. I have their direct fit + edelbrock w-pump, dex-cool, spal fans and a 78 overflow tank. I have no mechanical fan (=tons of room in the engine compartment). On a 70F day the fans will never even come on. If I sit in traffic on a hot day with AC on, the temps slowly climb to 200F where the fans come on and it drops back to 180F within 3-4 minutes. Couldn't be happier. It's a big-block, too.
My 2 cents worth on the BeCool product, you will be impressed with it for sure. My 454 BB is .60 over at 467 cubes and I have heard that the big motors always run 220 plus for temp, well I have the BeCool radiator with Stewart water pump and 160 stat, I have twin Spal fans. My fans come on at 195 and go off at 180 or so, even in 90 degree weather at idle it never goes over 195! Great product, good service, good people equal many smiles, enjoy!
Thats pretty impressive. Im going to install it next week. My vett is my daily driver my other car (street/race) is a 67 nova with a bigblock dart heads 630 lift solid cam 11.00 comp turbo 400 trans brake 411 and lots more. Its hard to keep it under 200 Thanks for your input.
Even with all the HiPo cooling stuff (BeCool, Stewart, Spal) you still need to have a functional chin spoiler and foam seals around the rad and on top of the rad frame to seal to the hood.
I also had some cooling effect from removing my front license plate.
I may install it today. If I do I will post my results. My next project is a 4l80e and 370 gears. I just want to thank everyone for there input  .
Its in it looks liked it may have helped it ran at about 190 instead of 215. But its still not running at thermostat temp 180. I installed the thermostat with the radiator so they are both new. I am thinking that the ac condenser is to restrictive or the clutch fan just doesn't pull enough air. I wanted to keep the a/c but if I have to I am going to pull it out :cry My other option is duel fans I don't mind spending 300 dollars if there is some kind of guarantee it will help. Dose anyone know the cfm rating on a stock fan? (7 blade bbc fan)
Thanks for all you input John
Yep when the car is cold it goes up to 180 cools down then it creeps up to about 190, 195 So the gauge seems to be good ( VDO gauge) And i havent hit a hot day yet. It seems to be a air flow issu but maby im missing something.
Check the installation of your fan. It is possible to install the fan backwards (don't ask me how I know this...) The fan will have the word "front" stamped into the steel hub. This word should face forward.
I am having a similar problem. Mine came with one electric fan that
runs all the time (no thermostat hooked to the fan). And it still gets
up to the 220 mark. Wondering if I need some kind of shroud ?
Ok I did it Installed the radiator it ran at 190 better but the thermostat was hanging open at 190. So I removed the A/C condenser and advanced the spring on the clutch fan. Now it runs at 180 and I can keep my hand no the radiator when it is at full operating temp.
