I said to myself I would have one before I turned 30. I bought it 1 month after turning 31. Oh well, 1 wife and 2 kids slowed me down a little. It's all good. :D P.S. my wife is the one who told me to buy it....and she won't even drive it....I think I'll keep her.
I fell in love with the C5 when it debuted, I believe that was when I first really started paying attention to cars. I was looking for my second car, after selling my handed-down '92 Camry, and suprisingly I found a C3 in my price range! I couldn't have had a better 18th birthday present to my self
For some reason people get it in their heads that they can't afford a Vette, or that it's impractical. I don't know how many "I've always wanted one" or "I would get one but..."s I've heard. Maybe it is impractical (moreso for the married types) but you just have priorities that work with it. If you want a 100% reliable vehicle to tow around the soccer-kids, you should probably be on http://www.minivanforum.com  I'm marrying my girlfriend after college, and there's already an agreement that the Corvette stays :yesnod:
I researched insurance at the time as well, like you mentioned there was a tiny difference, if any.
Go for the vette. I honestly don' think you can go wrong. I've had two camaros and a (dare I say it) 69 Mustang and the time effort and money necessary just to get any of them to the level of my 79 seems like such waste now. But oh well. Insurance and gas are definitely doable my only problem is my right foot. The vette has been stowed for the winter (I have my regular beat around truck) since I put her in the ditch a few weeks ago(Worthless bald bfgoodriches  ) Anyway, go vette. I know I will never go back now.
By the way I'm 21 and have only driven one non-v8 car in my 5 years of driving and have had 4 powered by 8s. I have had my fair share and a few other peoples worth of tickets and accidents. So if you think you are mature enough(ha listen to me) go for it. Other wise hold off(this is only too many close calls talking)
i work for my parent at a mortgage company...some guys parks a 77 right outside my window for a day...my step-dad continuously make remarks that i should seel my car and buy that one...i think nothing of it
as the day goes on the vette is tempting me...so i call my dad and say man you should buy me this vette for christmas..hehehe...well he asks about it and it is white with 49,000 original miles for $6100...
i went home that night and talked to him about it and he says "hell if those are original miles i'll put down the money until you can sell your car and pay me back...so i think COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!
the next day my step dad and i take it for a test drive, everything functioned pretty well... the stock 350 needed a little loving but it was good enough for me...so i went back to work and call my insurance agent to get the specs on insurance...turns out to be a little more than i am paying now but i dont care....so i call my dad and he says go offer the guy $5000....as i walk out the door i see the owner shaking some other guys hand as he leaves...
so i went up to him and said ill give you 5 grand....his immediate response was "sorry i just sold it to that guy for $4800"
so now i am saving my money, well atleast after christmas and then buying one when i see another good deal!!
Roughly 35. Now 41 and currently own two: '64 & '72. But have '64 up for sale :cry But might be buying second home for rental with money.
Plenty of yootes in here with vettes. I had to wait until I was married for a few years. Bought my wife a new car and I was driving a POS '79 Bonneville (this was in '97). Convinced her that a vette was a good investment and she somehow believed me. The rest is history. Let's see...I was 27 when I bought it.
17,took me a few years to convince my parnets to let me buy MY car with MY own money. They still wouldnt let me take it to college thought. Im paying $147,?? a month for 10 months with a 300 some down payment for insurance. Thats liability only, perfect record.
My mom and dad call me about every other week to inform me of how much fun they are having driving my car.
I was 21 when I got my 69 in 1981. One of the best buys I ever made ($4500.00). But take my advice seriously...
Unless it is real clean, Get a beater to put around in case the Vette needs service. In other words, when it needs attention fix it right. Use a hondo-mitso-whatever to use for a few days or even a month. This way you will treasure the Vette more and be less likely to trash it.
Shop around for insurance. Mine was expensive, but I got a break because I said that my 'beater car' was my dailt transportation and the Vette was a limited milage car. Good Luck!
Dreamed of owning a C3 since they were first in production. In my mid-30's I bought my first Vette, a C4 :yesnod: Good but not good enough. At 40 I replaced it with a C3 :D
I got my vette when I was 23, fresh out of college, new job, new apartment and 1,500 miles away from my family! Now I am 27, just bought a house, got engaged, and now my corvette funds have dwindled. It is my top prioity and when I get the funds I have alot of projects to work on. I definitely recommend buying the vette now if you can afford it becuase it doesn't get any easier down the road once you start building a family.
I bought my "custom/modified" '69 just days before my 24th birthday for $7k. It's down now, but I'm working on it both myself and with friends. My hope is to have it back this winter time after about 10 months of not driving it. I can count on my fingers and toes the number of times I've driven it. Hopefully after this upgrade & repair job that will change. I'll drive it more than I work on it. I told myself in High School that by the time I was 25 I'd have a '68 or '69 'Vette. Well it took a trip to the Army, some bum knees and a medical discharge later, I had it.
Get the 'Vette you can't possibly regret it.
