I am a 1948 model American. The best rememberance of the Hemi was in 1953 or there abouts 332 ccid. then the 352 ccid. then the 392 ccid. [early AAA fuelie choice] then the 426 ccid. [funny cars @ the drags and Richard Petty's NASCAAR run from '65]. Physics makes the Hemi what it is. Power is derived from surface area and a sphere has more area than a wedge. Ask Ford {426 side oiler Hemi-cammer]
As an after thought, the great 60's wedge engines were [not in any order] Chevy's 409 ; Ford's 406 and Mopar's 413. AMERICAN IRON @ it's FINEST!!!
If you want to talk about blown engines you should check out LS1Motorsports' turbo formula firebird. 775 hp and 865 ft lbs of torque off a bone stock 120,000 mile LS1.
those engines LOVE forced induction.
as far as arguing about HEMI Vs. Chevy or Ford, i have no opinion. ive never had a ride in a 426 car, a 427 BBC car, or a 429 car. i will say that it obviously means someting when the guys making 8000-9000 horsepower are using engines that have hemispherical heads.
