I just happened to think of this when I walked by my 68 roadster after lunch. The styling of the C3 really is timeless - I can't think of any other car that I can genuinely say is better looking - I'm not real biased on this -I appreciate and own some great looking mustangs and cadillacs, but I can't think of any car that is as beautiful as the C3 (particularly the early ones). - I remember being awed by the C3 on my paper route when I was a kid and it still has the same impact...
I expect this group is biased to agree with me, but I can't think of any other cars with better styling (certainly not later corvettes)... Can anyone else think of a better looking car ---- maybe the Cobras are at least in the same league..
The C3 is a beautiful car. I like some of the C2 cars but have always wanted a Cobra. I know an original is out of the question but a replica would be real nice.
Out of all the Corvette stylings, and I really love them all, I'd have to say the C3 is the sexiest, most dramatic and most "over the top" of all the production Vettes. To me it screams extreme concept car that somehow not only made it to production, but lasted 15 model years! Even the rubber bumper versions, of which I have, are works of art. As a matter of fact I think the '75 - '82s are great bargains because with a few notable exceptions, the collectors are not interested in them, so they are perfect for mechanical modification.
Still, my personal favorite automobile design of all time is:
I absolutely love these cars.
Yeah - all good ones - I'm partial to the Shelbys too - I've owned a couple over the years - and the GT-40 is a fantastic looking car. No denying that C2s and C1s are also awesome.
But I think some of the impact of the C3 is lost because people have grown used to it - If GM had never produced the C3 and introduced it today, I think it would still knock everyone off their feet...
I also think a C3 with big-block, headers and sidepipes (like mine) is the best sounding car ever...
Coincidentally, my brother just bought a Delorean about a week ago - about 15K for a pretty nice one. Very nice looking car from the windshield back - but the front looks like a shoebox - like they just never finished it... And the car has a six cylinder peugot engine and little exhausts that look like straws. Not for me - but to each his own.

Re: C3 - Best looking car ever? (Rbbmoose427)
Some of the new cars on the road these days look pretty good, like the 350Z and G35, I saw one with aftermarket wheels and it really looked cool. I would rather have my Vette but I would consider trading for the 600HP Lambo Murciélago
I was in Detroit yesterday on business and we stopped by a Ford plant to try top sell them some wire welding machines that I design. Anyway there was a new yellow GT40 in the parking lot. Two suits hopped in and I pulled up near it to listen. The motor was very quiet with almost no rumble at all. They pulled away slowly so I didn't get to hear it rev at all.
Nice looking car though. It looks as wide as a school bus and as tall as a skateboard. Very sweet. (For a Ford)
For me, in order to find a truly beautiful line you have to go back in time. My personal favorite is a 59' Chevy. If you get it going fast enough that car would actually take flight with those wings!
Only drawback with the DMC....the punny French motor....no guts.
That is the unfortunate buzz kill about the DMC-12. 130hp V6 is bad. Still, you have to compare it to what else was available at the time. I still think it out performed the 305 crossfire F-body cars of that era by a hair. I know that's a joke, but for it's day it was still league with it's contemporaries. The planned twin turbo version, of which two prototypes were produced, would have kept up with stock L98 C4 Vettes. Just didn't make it that far. And let us all not forget, there were poor performing Corvettes in it's 50+ year history too. Even if the DMC-12 did not last long enough to come into the performance that was intended for it, that does not take away from it's design beauty. Just like the '53 Vette was a beauty, but not a performer.
Ironically, the little 2.8 liter 8.8:1 compression 130hp PRV V6 DeLorean engine is a hemi, and also has an aluminum block and dual overhead camshafts DMC in Houston will sell you or install a 190 horsepower version of the original PRV V6 engine they modified if you want some extra kick, but it's $$.
I thought of this the other day too. I pulled my inside mirror off (as suggested in another thread) and now have to look behind in the outside mirrors. All I could see was those HUGE SEXY rear fenders, and thought, damn do they look COOL!! I got out and walked around the car, and this thing looks amazing from ANY angle, especially with sidepipes (which I don't have). Also everyone thinks I'm rich when I'm driving this car, they don't know it costs less than a used honda (to purchase anyway )
The only other cars I like from any angle are the Vanquish, which I'll never afford, and Cobras, which I'll build someday.
