Other discussion forum ideas:
C-3 Misfits - Topics that **** off Merlin/Are anything the 427 guy said. I forgot his id.
C-3 How to be banned - Posting pics of naked girlfriend sleeping without a vette in the picture.
C-3 Bubba - What size stick will hold up my hood.
C-3 Lonely and bought a vette to meet chicks - Nevermind we have a C-5 section. Just kidding I'd own a C-5 in a heartbeat if I could afford it.
The list goes on.......

I'm off for the weekend. Have a good time. [/QUOTE]

You guys are a pill. I mean in a good way. Personally, I don't care one way or the other. I learn something new almost every time I log on, which is why I'm here. The silly post don't bother me, shoot, if I only had a dollar for every time I myself said something stupid........ My view is that it's fun, it's very informative, everyone here has a very cool (if not EXPENSIVE) hobby in common or are at least interested in it and that's what it's for. Point of fact, if it hadn't been for guys like you, Scooter, 70ls1 and some others, there is NO WAY I would have attempted the project that I'm in the middle of, so many, many thanks to all!

I'll go with the flow on this one, but right now, I'm just trying to figure out where I am.

Too much split is not good and means little response. I think a general BS section and a separate technical section would be great.

That will absolutely improve with the software change. The search should actually work and it should work welll. I'm not sure how complete the historical post search will be though. I think it'd take a gazillion computer years to index it all, so we'll have to wait and see what we get.

Personally, I think one section works well. It ebbs and flows as far as the total post volume and the subject matter goes (tech vs general if you will). There is the option now to change the number of posts on the main page, and clicking to page 2 is at least as simple as clicking to a different section. I'll have to check, but I think on the old software we'd turn-over about 1 1/2 pages of topics each day. So page 2 is no more than a day old. Splitting into 2 sections would theoretically halve that, so there would be 2 sections, each with 3/4 of a page of new-daily topics.

We'll discuss it though, and look at what the comments are and then decide what we think is best.

I, personally, am getting sick of the OT stuff here that makes the good stuff go to page 2 within a matter of hours.

Do you ever go to the bottom of the first page of topics????

Right now I see the top thread was posted to at 10:21 pm. and the very bottom thread was posted to at 1:33 am. that is 21 hours worth of posts. And if you go to page 2, there is more than 24 hours worth of posts.

Now tell me again how the OT stuff is ruining it for you.

Whether the old software or this new one it seems to me it's a simple manner oF these guys do not know how to surf the pages. So I cannot agree to split the C3 section due to people's inability to use a PC.

There is a lot of good things about the forum that I like it the way it is.
No one knows everything about car, a litle fix from a vette sometime it takes way longer if you don't ask. I alway, do a search for my question b/f posting question, but new members are not alway know about the search and how to do it efficiency. If someone does not like to response to somepost then don't, but let others do. I notice most people here very understanding and willing to help. Sometime, I post OT, but only if it about car and could not get help from anywhere else then I alway got my answer here"Thanks" for that. A few OT with in the moderate fashion can be fun and we dont have that many OT anyway. Well, all I can say is be understanding. We all like the benefits, the knowledges and the fun from this forum.

Lot have mentioned removing junk posts...well, how do you define junk? What is important to one may be junk to another....as moderators, we don't make judgemental calls what is or isn't junk. As long as the threads conform to forum guidelines, they are valid.

OK,

by your logic the C5 section is fragmented and an unfriendly place. Why should ANY section be subdivided????? Have they created new subgroups in the C4 and C5 sections as the forum grew or did they start out on day 1 with the current subgroups? You should go over there and tell them to lump it all into one section to make things easier. I think we have a very conservative crowd here that don't like change or innovation.

Its going to have to happen eventually as the C3 crowd continues to grow by leaps and bounds. Quit dragging your feet and accept progress.

BTW. Can you expalin the rabbit with the pancake on the head? I don't get it. I guess i'm not cool and hip to those kinds of things. I don't get the Badger-Badger thing either.

This is the problem - you just have too many members here asking to many redundant/duplicate questions. 2 pages a day of topic threads and the second page of course dissapears never to be seen or answered. I personally wouldn't mind seeing it split between "general discussion" and "modifications". But the real problem is the new members who just do not know how to use the search feature or just think their problem, such as "how do I bleed brakes" is a novel problem. The key is education - post a sticky such as NEW MEMBERS LOOK HERE BEFORE POSTING instructing them how to use the search feature, post a FAQ on C3's (I know there is one, how many people know where it is? Post a link directly to it in an obvious place). Heck post a new member forum maybe. Moderators need to step in on a thread and remind new members of other ways to gain knowledge rather than asking again "how do I open my hood with the hood switch broken" or "what size tires will fit on my car"
.
This place is becoming overwhelmed and overloaded, and that is truly unfortunate. I get alot of information using the search function but for everyday usage or asking a truly novel C3 question it's just becoming a waste of time. I asked a question the other week about an MSD timing advance mechanism, never been asked before, truly relevant to our HEI run cars. A couple hours later it dissapeared to page 2 without a single answer, displaced by the posts about "what order do I bleed my brakes", "what oil do you use poll", and "what polish do I use on my wheels" type posts.

There are forums here that specifically deal with NCRS type restos.....FActory Correct, and a forum that deals in engine mods, by the same name....

I don't see why we can't try it for like a month or so, see how everyone likes it. The opinions now are all based on 1 group feeling that posts drop off too soon. This can not be denied and offering a solution like: new people have to search, OT should belong in OT... and so on clearly don't help. These have been brought forward as many times as the request for a split and it hasn't gotten better, instead it's getting progressivly worse.

The other group is, as I see it, afraid of change. Something like if it ain't broke don't fix it.

If the c3 section has to rely on the posting ethics of all the people visiting here I don't think it will get better, few people actually do asearch, most just post their question. I feel they should be allowed to post their question, when there's 2 sections there won't be a problem with it, every posts gets more exposure.Hardly anyone goes to page 2, I know I rarely do.
