new best 1/4 mile 13.539 @ 106.23 mph
Small consolation for losing the race. Somehow I got distracted and fell asleep at the light. I was ticked off at myself and drove with anger, which translated into faster. Now I am starting to think... "what would it take to get me into the twelves??"

Swapping to an 8"/4500 RPM converter (from a 10"), 4.56s (from 4.11s), and 28" x 10" slicks (from 26" x 8" stickie-streets), I instantly ran 12.80s/106 (best-of 12.774/109).

60 ft was 2.17 which is about as good as I get. 2.25 is normal, with BFG 225/70 on the stock 15" X 7 68 wheels. original 3.36 rear and M20 trans.
I do not power shift. Thought about trying on the 1/2 shift. Wouldn't dare on the 2/3 because I often get hung up there.. no rev limiter - I would hate to blow the engine!
I have a 68 vert with original L-36 bigblock. With hardtop and me in it and 1/4 tank we weigh around 3650 lbs.
Don't know if cam is stock - car was restored not by me and I have owned it for 5 years.
Carb is a new Qjet (Edelbrock 1901) with 73 primary jets.
I put in lighter springs in the distributor and set timing all in at 36 degrees, all in by 2500 rpm. Still running points (tried pertronix, prefer a good set of points). Have a K&N air filter element.
Running Hooker supercomps (jet hot coated) into 2.5" exhaust with H pipe into flowmaster 50s. Recently had custom exhaust bent using same mufflers. Although I replaced similar pipes performance was definitely improved.
I have given a lot of thought to buying a set of drag radials, I have a carb spacer that I might put on to see if it makes any difference, but I don't want to turn this into a race car. i don't go to the track that often.

Yea man, don't just leave us in ur tire smoke. Whats your engine/driveline combo? Carb, intake heads, c.i., trans, rear gears?

IF the rear end will take a hard(er) launch, try the drag radials. I think you'd be pleased with them. With that kind of trap speed, you can certainly run high-12s, but the factory gearing (trans + rear) is far from optimum, so that hurts.
Still, knocking off .2-.3 in the 60' (which you can do with a more aggressive launch and traction) will put you right on the cusp of the 12.99 barrier.
Good luck.

Thats a pretty good trap speed. I too am thinking you are spining coming off the line. I think you have a low 13 sec car if you hook up. I could never get my BF Goodrich street radials to hook up at the strip. I went to the BF Goodrich drag radials and the ETs just dropped. They can really hook up.
