Default Q-jet number question

I am in the process of identifing just how many parts are "numbers matching" on my 74.

I have this number on the side of the q-jet carb.

17057213 AWP. I think this belongs to a 77 with manual trans. I do not know what the AWP stands for.

what do you'll think.

Well, it's certainly not correct for your 74, but that number doesn't come up in the very excellent paper that Lars wrote here: http://www.corvettefaq.com/redir.asp?site=215

If you copy your post and e-mail it to me at my home e-mail address I'll check that number in my master parts book and post up the results when I get home tonight. I'll then add the number onto my carb listing chart:

An old carb book that I have lists that number as being a 75-78 Chevy or GMC truck. Hershey

Carb number 17057213 is off of a 1977 350 Heavy Duty GMC Truck, body styles C, K & G in 1/2-ton, 3/4-ton and 1-ton models. IN its stock form, the carb was jetted with #64 primary jets and #40 primary rods. Secondary rod part number was 17053531 - I don't have a letter designator cross reference for this part number in my data.

The letters after the carb part number designate the engine assembly plant where the carb was originally used.

The jetting on that carb is extremely lean for a performance application. You can get some significant improvement if you do a little jetting work and tuning on your setup.

Thank you all for the information. I think maybe something is not correct with this current setup. Even though I have the L48, when I put my foot in it, it does nothing.

I am thinking of having it dyno'ed and adjusted prior to putting away for the winter. Which by my travel schedule will be the middle of next month. Sometimes I hate my job.

That's not too surprising - that carb is jetted far too lean to perform at a reasonable level on a Vette. With some significant re-jetting it can be made to run fine, but a Q-Jet off of a '74 Camaro/Nova/Monte Carlo/Chevelle would look correct and be jetted right for your application.
