Prices on the C3 seem to be very area-dependant. The mid-70s rubber bumper Vettes by me are going for peanuts....$6000-8000...sometimes even less.

I owned 73 Opel GT, some (not Vette owners) called them mini Vettes. It ran like a top and I sold it with 200K miles on it. I loved the shape. Now that I'm all growed up I can afford a real Vette.

My buddy had a 1973 Manta. Those German cars were nearly indestructable. Good thing too since as you say, it was the 70s and it would have sucked to have car problems after some serious partying.

I live in Lancaster Pennsylvania and I am now finding c-4 parts cars for a lot less than the c-3's . c-3's (parts cars) are starting to get hard to find .

Mr Dep,

Glad you are keeping up with the market price and searching out deals on used rubber bumper Vettes!

Now that you've done the research, maybe you should pick up 2 or 3 as an investment.

You're crackin' me up Clint!!! I just see so many of them trying to be unloaded on unsuspecting victims that it's hard to miss them.
No thanks on picking one up...if I want luxury I'll buy a Cadillac or Lincoln

I have never owned a "solid axel" but, I have worked on them and drove them, C2's are good but don't allow enough tire under them and you have to make the coupe/roadster decision, C4's are cheap but sometimes difficult to fix (some are priced less than C3's in my area.) When I drive my 72 LT-1 with it's loud exhaust setting off car alarms as I drive down the street, it brings a smile to my face (juvenille delinquent that I am!) The kids in my neighborhood yell "nice car!" as I drive down the road, at the gas station I constsnly run into Viet Nam era Vets who tell me they bought a Vette when they returned to the states. My car is generaly faster than "stock" Z06's at the the autocross races (plenty of room for BIG sticky tires UNLIKE a C2 Vette.) The interior is like a "airplane" and you sit low inside. I can "pop" my tops and rear window on a nice day and enjoy the open air. Parts are REALLY CHEAP! and plentiful compared to other vintage muscle cars. I can fix EVERYTHING myself and do the job correctly with a $30 GM shop manual. Big tires, open air, right exhaust note, and good looking! how can you beat it?

I can't wait to turn my IRS '72 into a solid (Ford 9") axle car. All those u-joints twirling around is a headache begging for a cure

'Cause it is the most drop-dead-sexy body style.

Midyears are pretty sexy too but in a different kind of way.

Did they make any Vettes after '82?

I first purchased my vette because it was the cheapest fiberglassed bodied sports car I could afford. I enjoyed the lines but could not afford a convertable. I was looking a Porshe 944 but decided that I wanted to build not buy. I purchased my car in 1986. After I purchased my car and then spent the next two years getting it on the road I now appreciate the Corvette for the work class car that it is. I never really liked the car. Let me rephrase that I never really liked the people who buy a vette and then drive around thinking they are something in a real fast car. I now and one of those people but I have put lots of time and money into my baby. You are never done with a older vehicle so I enjoy working on my car and I also enjoy driving it. My $0.02
