Stand 10 feet in front of a C3 and look at it. Nuff said. I was a camaro guy forever but now that I am older, 40, able to afford it and I don't have to pick up my friends to give them rides I went for a 77 last year. This car came out when I was 13 and me and my best friend used to just drool over them when we were kids. Unfortunately he was working on the 93rd floor of Tower one on 9/11. I miss him but mashing the peddle on a bored over 350 helps sooth the soul.
it's hard to put into words, but just like the C2s there's something about C3s, especially the chrome bumper years, that looks more "solid" than anything that came after. although i love all vettes, C4 and up always looked a little more "plastic" to me, even though i think road and track first described the C3 as follows "the word that comes to mind is plastic." i know they're made of the same stuff, but when i look at a C4-C6 i feel like i could smash the fenders in with my pinkey finger, not so with the C3s. a C3 is a linebacker, a C4-C6 is a quarterback. both great athletes, just different types. i was 9 when the C4 came out and as a kid the C3 was always the coolest car. had a poster of a 78 pace car on the wall, right next to my jets pennant. just loved the lines of C3 much more than C2 or C4 back then, still do.

At the time I bought my 1969, about 8 years ago, it was what I could afford. C1's and C2's were outrageously priced (and still are) and C4's hadn't yet begun their price dive. (now that they have I'm looking for one of those).
I was born in 1971. I started recoginizing cars as a kid in the late seventies, and of course the very first one I could pick out was the C3 Corvette. I thought they were the coolest cars on the road. In the early 80's (I was about 12 or 13), a goofy looking blue Corvette showed up at football practice. It had steel bumpers...I had never seen one of those before and was wondering if it was even a Corvette. All of my teammates were gawking over it....then my dad hopped out. I almost crapped my pants. That car is in my garage right now. It's been C3's for me ever since.
I was just wondering why of all the corvettes you choose to own a C3??? personally I like the look of them over the other generations.....although all vettes are nice.
Mako Shark II show car made an impression when I was a lad. Saw a '68 on the street about a month later, I guess, and went ape****. Later in life I was in the market for a Chevy to play with and the 'Vette just sort of happened.
1st Gen: To elusive and dated. $$$
C2: Nice but not sharp enough for me. $$
C4: A step back in style. I believe it's referred to as a "wedge". I agree. $
C5: Never liked that back and I wouldn't have any fun working on it. $$
C6: A step back in style. Pop-up lights are a must. $$$
Conclusion: C3 is the cheapest, hottest, and most easily modifiable Corvette in existance -- again, in my opinion.
