Not fair to just dump the pictures! We need details.

-Who's coating?
-Bought new and coated, bought coated, or refinished coating (like a used pipe that was sent in be coated...)?
-How many miles?
-How many years?

maybe those were used and already rusting and then coated and sold as new and u were the unlucky buyer? never seen anything like that. thats digusting. my hookers were original chromed but they started rusting after 4 or 5 yrs so i sent them to jet-hot to get dechromed and jet coated 7 yrs ago and they're still rust free. who did u buy yours from? think u'd be able to get your $ back or a new set?

In addition to the above questions, what kind of climate? Salt air, winter snow & road salt, or is it only driven in nice weather? More details please. I'm cosidering side pipes but will try to find stainless if the hooker coating doesn't last.

BTW: glad to see the photobucket thing is working for you; you've got a nice looking car. I realy like the hood!

Those Hookers are the Summit ceramic Hookers!
I bought them brand new from Summit racing in January 2003.
They looke beautiful when they turned up at my house.
I bolted them on and posted about them in May of 2004, when I signed up at the forum.

Those are pics of ONE yaer old Summit Hookers.....I e-mailed Hooker in May and they told me that they were not able to do anything for me.

Those Hookers had less than 1000 miles on them at the time those pics were taken. The car was stored in an unheated garage though during the winter of 03-04 and I did drive it about a hundred miles in February 04 after installing my new 540....maybe the cold weather and the hot pipes made them peel...I don't know

I do know that I paid good money for what turned out to be a total waste.....I had them blasted with aluminum oxide (or something of the sort) within the past month and repainted with black 1500 degree paint

Will keep them like that until I figure out what to do with my new 90"
308 SS 4" ID pipe that I shipped in during June-July

Those Summit Hookers peeled bad and I don't know why.....I know that I expected more though.

NO here!!!

I can't believe Hooker would put their name on something that would rot out in a year.

The Hooker coating sucks. No doubt about it. I bought hooker coated headers years ago. They started rusting in spots within a year. I'm in Texas where NOTHING rusts! After 3 years the coating looked like cheap paint. Dull, spotted and rusted. I took them out and cleaned them up and repainted with header paint. The paint is holding up better than hookers ceramic coating!

If you want ceramic coating go with the companies that do it as their main business. Jet-Hot, etc.

u should go w/jet-hot. they have 3 locations in the U. S. it cost me around $350 not including the shipping. yours will probably be cheaper since they don't have to dechrome them. the bigest PITA was trying to find boxes big enough to ship the headers. took em about 10 days to get em back to me. was in awe when i opened the boxes. put some chrome cleaner on em and then some wax and they really shined up nice

You WAXED them? Arruh?

My headers are HedMan 68301's but the coating was from a NY company that advertized ceramic coated headers on Ebay. In retrospect I wish I'd bought the Ceramic Headers straight from Hedman because they are coming apart in one area too. Between the center tubes on the right side the coating is peeling...and of course rust.

I've heard that what makes ceramic coating come off is chemicals. In my case, that ancient style coolant recovery bottle on the fender spews coolant now and again. I've replaced the rad cap, the bottle, and put a new cap on the bottle but the top of the bottle is still loose enough a fit to let coolant escape if I drive it hard on a hot day.

From the time the headers had 500 miles or so on them, I'd seen spots of coolant splashed around that inside fender well so I'll bet that some got on the header too and the peeling I'm seeing now is related.

Holy shnit is that a hole rusted thru ?

My experience is that ceramic coating lookes fantastic when it is just done, it shines up like chrome very nice to look at. However in about a ear or so they dull up and it get impossible to get them to shine again. Might as well be header paint at this point, and for 6 bucks a can that's what I will be doing on my next set of headers instead of forking over alot of dough for the coating.

san diego paul, yeah i always wax em after i use chrome polish on em, it takes off the residue left on em and makes em shine even more. coated headers should be impervious to antifreeze and other car liquids. after i installed the dewwits alum rad, on my 1st cruise i blew off my lower rad hose(electric fan decided to take a crap on me) and got antifreeze all over my nicely cleaned motor, very pissed. no spots, marks ect on headers

Here's some pics of a pair of used Super-Comp's I bought. They were on a sometime daily drive BB. I was told the coating is Hooker's ceramic. I think they were on the car 2 years old at this point.

Hmmm. Sounds like Hooker uses either inferior coatings or processes. I wonder if the do the coating themselves or farm it out...
