I'm rebuilding my entire rear suspension and want to clean & paint everything. (horror stories about trailing arm removal are true)
Will the use of POR-15 on the half shafts effect their ballance?
Let's see some color combos back there!!!
Eddie
RedBad79: Lookin good. I was thinking of the same silver/black color combo. Is that POR-15??
Lotus76: I checked into rust bullit but was discouraged by the color availability...BUT... the metalic grey looks better than I thought!! Might consider that now.
Eddie
Here's mine ... cleaned, etched, silver POR15, dusted while tacky, topcoated with Krylon gold then clearcoat. The ends are Krylon semi-flat black.
Balance should not be affected, as long as you paint all the way around.
Obviously, you're pushing some nasty torque toward the rear drivetrain.
Are those Tom's side yokes ? ... solid crossmember mounts, HS loops,
adjust struts ...
but the smaller halfshafts !! Did you consider the 3" versions or carbon fiber ?
Is the turbo mounted to distract people from noticing you forgot to paint the halfshafts red ?
NHvette: Man...that gold/black color combo is great! Gold wouldn't work for mine though. I especially like the half shaft ends a different color than the shaft. Gonna do that

Yes, boy George you noticed all that stuff, I try to forget all the (money spent) upgardes I've done back there

The reason for not having the upgraded halfshafts is becasue I haven't broke either of them yet.

Oops, I forgot to paint the halfshafts!
NHVette, your halfshafts turned out great!

Wow - those are some good pictures of your trailer queens!! I guess I'll paint mine when they need to be replaced.

It really doesn't matter. Many of the Vette racers out here point out that the larger diameter shafts are not as strong since they have thinner walls...

I can neither confirm nor deny this.
Well, I was only half-joking. Like Mike said - they haven't broke - yet.
It wouldn't matter on my L48, but I had a 75 set and a 70 set.
I guess I should have spent the time cleaning up the older set. Oh well.
Maybe when I go BB someday.
Now that I think about it, don't the Ujoints usually (maybe always) break first ?
how did you get your leaf spring so parallel to the ground? mine kinda bows on either end towards the ground...
Must be the photo, mine (of course) also bows towards the ground. Since I took that photo I installed the longer (8") bolts for the spring, I guess I have to update my photo gallery...
