I don't know any racer that would object to driving my open exhaust Vette on the street...
I object to - loud beyond reason. I've tried to make my 3 inch system as quiet as possible. Sound DB is also a function of HP. Your high compression motor will be really loud at WOT. Lack of back pressure makes the most HP not the loudest exhaust system.
I was so glad years ago in motorcycle road racing when they banned d all bikes over a certian DB level. The Same thing on Car road racing. In the old days non silenced 2 cycle multi cylinder bikes actually hurt your ears. I can remember how it just hurt when the turbo charged Mazda multi rotored Wankle cars drove by.
They just ruined what's supposed to be a pleasurable experience. At the drag strip knock yourself out.
I used to have a neighbor with a 69 350/350 30/30 mech cam 4 speed straight 4 inch side pipes. I couldn't even hear my car next to him. But I always kicked his butt on the time slips even when I had my smaller 355 ci motors. I didn't even like to ride in his Vette. It sucked
I never rev the car above 2500 rpm when driving through residential areas. I only open it up on the highway...
I agree that the lowest backpressure gets you the most HP, but there's nothing that has less backpressure than a open exhaust.. I'm not aware of any mufflers that reduce backpressure
